TV All Things SNL

Geeze 12 years

I'm still watching UK but I can't remember anything about last week's except Coughlan was a good host and Jimmy Fallon is not famous here so I'm not sure why the audience were whooping for him (or maybe he is famous here and I'm out of touch.)

Only watched the start of this week's and I think Aimee was getting annoyed at the audience "woooing" over her lines, but maybe that's me projecting. I HATE FUN, clearly!

I wish they did more topical sketches. Beyond the weekly Starmer thing (and sometimes Prince Andrew) it's always sketches that could fit in any week.

Here's what Google AI had to say when I asked, "before Jimmy Fallon appeared on SNL UK last week, how well known was he in the UK?"

-------------------------

Jimmy Fallon was already well-known in the UK as a major American television personality prior to his April 2026 cameos on SNL UK. As host of The Tonight Show, his clips often circulated online, and he was recognized as "SNL royalty", though some viewers viewed him as a polarizing or "plastic" American comedy figure compared to local talent. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
Key Context on His UK Profile:
  • Late-Night Recognition: As host of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon (executive produced by Lorne Michaels), he had a consistent, albeit perhaps niche, presence among fans of U.S. late-night television. [1]
  • Legacy Recognition: His previous stint as a Saturday Night Live cast member (1998–2004) and "Weekend Update" co-anchor was known to comedy fans. [1, 2]
  • Mixed Reception: Ahead of his surprise appearance, online commentary showed a divide, with some viewers expressing excitement at his "SNL royalty" status, while others considered him an unnecessary, "pointless" addition to the British-led production.
-------------------------

Yeah, many of us in America also largely view him as a plastic, people-pleasing try-hard comedy figure... his musical abilities save him. Plus some people loved how he always broke character and giggled in sketches...

Does the US one have as many cast members who can sing as the UK one? (I'm not being snarky, some of them are very talented.)

I feel like there are at least 2 or 3, I am sure there are more and I just don't know it.

HAHAHA ITS FUNNY BECAUSE HE'S NOT THE DOCTOR ANYMORE OOPS

This one made me think they really put in a lot of singing for Hannah.

I liked Celeste's drunk acting when she joined in.

Tonight might be good.
I finally watched Matt Damon's episode tonight. Oh wait, I'm not done yet.
Okay I'm done.
I enjoyed the opening scene whatever that is called
and I enjoyed blue cat litter box
and as usual
Kenan
ok
and I like Jane Wickline
and some other cast members
blah blah blah
etc etc

I liked the music too
Noah Kahan
And I like Sarah Sherman.

When I said tonight would be good I meant because of Paul McCartney, not Will Ferrell.

Tonight will be good because of Will Ferrell also, Good afternoon!

Strong rumours that Ania will be leaving as series 2 is set to start in September and she has lots of tour dates on Saturdays in September and October. Plus she flew out on a harness at the end of Weekend Update this week.
