How times have changed. When I started college, the biggest, fanciest TV you could practically get was a color 24" console. Oh, a bar might have a projection TV or something, but for practical purposes, the 24" (26? I forget) was it. And I don't even know what one cost. In 2000 a 55" flat panel would set you back $5-6K. I don't remember what my VCR cost in 1999--hundreds, I'm sure. Eventually you couldn't get tapes anymore so I had to buy a DVD player in 2002 or so. The nicest, most expensive one at Target was under $100. But back to TVs. When I had the bright idea to live at the house I'm fixing up, it occurred to me that I could take my TMobile Internet device over there for broadband and bring an antenna and some co-ax for TV, but I don't know if I feel like the hassle of taking my TV out of its bookcase and unwiring it from the DVD and VCR so just for fun I had a look at what a new TV costs. $68. For $68 you can get a 34" TV at Wal*Mart. That's as crazy as computers. I'm sure my first and second laptops cost well over $1,000 each. My 3rd and 4th were a couple hundred each--and way more capability. Crazy.
