1997 Slam Dunk Champ
Let’s start at the beginning, though. A precocious 18-year-old Kobe Bryant was just getting his career started when he burst into the spotlight with a series of high-flying dunks to win him the 1997 Slam Dunk Contest in front of the stars of the NBA. It was one of many trophies Bryant would collect in his career.

Putting Vincent Yarbrough through the spin cycle

One of the prettiest poster dunks ever seen, it wasn’t enough that he dribbled the ball behind the back to get the necessary room to set up the dunk. He added a 360 when he could have easily just put it in with one hand. Only Kobe.

Welcome to the league, Dwight
If you don’t think that this contributed to Dwight Howard’s disdain for Kobe, you’re more naïve than Lakers management, who thought it could retain Howard after the fiasco in 2013.

Great wall of Yao crumbles

At 7-6, Yao Ming was a center who didn’t have many challengers. As one of the greatest players ever, Kobe Bryant never saw a challenge he couldn’t solve. Something had to give (hint: it was Yao).

Teams take 24-second shot clock violations in Kobe Bryant's honor
Nearly every team playing across Sunday's eight-game schedule -- not long after it was learned that Bryant died in a helicopter crash at age 41 --took a planned shot-clock violation. Teams took turns holding the ball for 24 seconds and eight seconds in the backcourt in honor of the No. 24 and No. 8 jerseys that Bryant wore. The tributes drew standing ovations across the board.

Kobe Bryant recalled for his 'Italian qualities' by Europeans
Bryant lived in Italy between the ages of 6 and 13 while his father, Joe Bryant, played for several teams in the country before returning to Pennsylvania for high school. Kobe Bryant spoke fluent Italian and often said it would be a "dream" to play in the country.

Oregon's Sabrina Ionescu dedicates season to close friend Kobe Bryant
Bryant was no stranger to the Ducks. He and Gianna attended the team's game at USC last January, at which time he spoke to the Ducks in the locker room. He was also in attendance when Oregon played at Long Beach State last month. But it was Ionescu, in particular, with whom the former NBA player forged a bond.

Kobe Bryant remembered as AFC beats NFC again in Pro Bowl

Green Bay linebacker Za'Darius Smith hastily organized an homage to Kobe Bryant minutes before the Pro Bowl. Smith and his NFC teammates learned about Bryant's death while they were in the locker room getting ready for the NFL's all-star game Sunday. Smith suggested the best way to pay tribute the late NBA great was to mimic his fadeaway jumper after big plays. So they did -- repeatedly. It was one of several ways NFL players remembered Bryant during the celebratory event, which the AFC won 38-33 for its fourth consecutive victory in Orlando. The NFL also held a moment of silence for Bryant at the 2-minute warning in the first half, showing the retired NBA star's picture on the scoreboards while announcing his death at age 41.
