Wooden's UCLA to Williams' UNC: The most dominate NCAA tournament runs of all time
First, a quick clarification. We're ranking runs here, not national champions. We've already done that. In this same spirit of clarity we will define "dominant" roughly as "recording decisive tournament wins against strong tournament opponents."

For those who don’t wanna read the bypass article there are two lists made drawing a line at 85 when the field expanded to 64 teams.

From 1939-1984:
No.1: UCLA (1968)
No.2: Ohio State (1960)
No.3: Indiana (1981)
No.4: NC State (1974)
No.5: UCLA (1967)

From 1985-2023
No.1: North Carolina (2009)
No.2: Villanova (2018)
No.3: UConn (2023)
No.4: Duke (2001)
No.5: Kentucky (1996) & Michigan State (2000)

Key storylines for all 32 D-1 men's conference ahead of 2023-24
Realignment is an ongoing storyline, too. The end of the Pac-12 seems imminent, with eight of its schools joining new leagues. All this and more affects what will happen after Nov. 6, when the 2023-24 season tips. But with 362 schools across 32 Division I conferences, that's a lot to digest.

ACC (Atlantic Coast Conference)
The ACC is packed with storylines. Kyle Filipowski is a serious Wooden Award contender on a Duke team with national championship dreams. Norchad Omier and Nigel Pack are back after Miami's Final Four run. Reace Beekman anchors a Virginia team that turned to the transfer portal after losing three double-digit scorers. But UNC faces the most pressure to redeem itself after a historic season -- and not the good kind. Last year, the Tar Heels became the first program in college basketball history to be the AP preseason No. 1 team and then miss the NCAA tournament. The fall unfolded just a year after Hubert Davis' squad lost to Kansas in the 2022 national title game. But Armondo Bacot (first-team all-ACC) and RJ Davis are back. Plus, they're joined by Elliott Cadeau, a top-10 prospect in the 2024 class who reclassified to play this season. Cadeau is a future pro who could immediately help this team's redemption efforts.

ACC coaches wary of more realignment: 'Guessing it's not over'

In his first time addressing the media since the Atlantic Coast Conference voted in early September to add California, Stanford and SMU, ACC commissioner Jim Phillips said Wednesday he has "never been more bullish" about the health of the league. It was a tumultuous summer for the ACC, with Florida State making it clear it would consider leaving the ACC due to the league's revenue distribution model. FSU president Richard McCullough told his board of trustees in early August that "FSU will have to at some point consider very seriously leaving the ACC unless there were a radical change to the revenue distribution." After the Big Ten and Big 12 made moves to bolster their respective memberships and in turn decimate the Pac-12, the ACC picked up the two most viable remaining pieces of the Pac-12 in Cal and Stanford and also poached SMU from the AAC. The three schools will join for the 2024-25 year.

No NIT automatic bids for regular-season conference champs

Regular-season conference champions are no longer guaranteed spots in the National Invitation Tournament. The NIT board of managers tweaked its qualifying rules for its postseason tournament Friday, saying regular-season champs who do not win their conference tournament and are not otherwise selected to the NCAA tournament will not receive an automatic bid to the NIT. Instead, the NIT will guarantee two teams -- based on the NET rankings -- from each of major six conferences, the Atlantic Coast Conference, the Big East, the Big Ten, the Big 12, the Pac-12 and the Southeastern. The top two teams in the NET rankings not qualifying for the NCAA tournament from each conference, regardless of win-loss record, will be selected. Additionally, the 12 teams automatically selected will be guaranteed the opportunity to host a game in the first round of the NIT.
