2024 NFL playoff schedule, bracket: Dates, times and TV for every round of AFC and NFC postseason

The NFL playoffs are finally upon us. After a wild 18 weeks, the NFL regular-season is finally in the books and it's now time for the postseason as the wild card round is now upon us. Although there will be some familiar faces in the playoffs this year -- like the 49ers, Chiefs and Cowboys -- there will also be some new blood. As a matter of fact, of the four teams in NFL history that have never been to a Super Bowl, three of them -- Houston, Cleveland and Detroit -- are in the playoffs this year. Unfortunately for the Browns and Texans, they'll be facing each other, which means one of those teams will be going home after the first round. As for Detroit, the Lions will be hosting their first playoff game in 30 years and in a twist, they'll be facing someone they're very familiar with: Matthew Stafford.

Super Wild Card Weekend
Saturday, Jan. 13

  • (5) Browns at (4) Texans, 4:30 p.m. ET (NBC, fubo). For just the second time in 20 years, the Browns are in the playoffs. These two teams met back in Week 16, but you probably shouldn't take too much away from that 36-22 win by Cleveland because C.J Stroud didn't play. The Texans superstar rookie will be on the field this week and he'll be facing one of his biggest tests of the season in the Browns defense.
  • (6) Dolphins at (3) Chiefs, 8 p.m. ET (Peacock). Tyreek Hill is going to get a second chance at beating his former team, and this time, he gets to do it in Kansas City. These two teams did meet back in Week 9 in a game that Kansas City won 21-14, but that game was played in Germany. The temperature in Kansas City is expected to be below 12 degrees on Saturday night.
Sunday, Jan. 14

  • (7) Steelers at (2) Bills, 1 p.m. ET (CBS/stream on Paramount+. This game will be played in Buffalo, where the Bills have been nearly unbeatable this year, going 7-1. Josh Allen has faced the Steelers four times in his career and he's gone 3-1 in those games. The Sunday forecast in Buffalo is calling for sub-freezing temperatures with possible snow.
  • (7) Packers at (2) Cowboys, 4:30 p.m. ET (Fox, fubo). This will be a revenge game for Mike McCarthy. This will mark just the second time that the Cowboys coach has faced the Packers since being fired by them in December 2018. McCarthy lost the first meeting in 2022 and will be looking to get his first win over Green Bay.
  • (6) Rams at (3) Lions, 8 p.m. ET (NBC, fubo). For their first home playoff game in 30 years, the Lions will be welcoming an old friend back to Detroit: Mathew Stafford. The Rams QB led the Lions to the playoffs three times, but never got to play a home game. This will also be a huge game for Jared Goff , who will be facing a team and a head coach that traded him away because they didn't want him anymore.
Monday, Jan. 15

  • (5) Eagles at (4) Buccaneers, 8:15 p.m. ET (ABC/ESPN, fubo). The Eagles are stumbling into the playoffs, but they will head to Tampa Bay knowing that they beat the Buccaneers 25-11 at Raymond James Stadium back in Week 3.

Snowstorm forces Steelers-Bills playoff game to Monday

The Bills' wild-card game vs. the Pittsburgh Sreelers has been rescheduled to Monday at 4:30 p.m. ET instead of Sunday at 1 p.m. ET to prioritize safety in the region because of an incoming snowstorm. A winter storm warning is in effect for Buffalo and surrounding counties, including Orchard Park in Erie County, the site of the stadium. More than a foot of snow -- and as much as 3 feet -- is expected in the Buffalo area, according to AccuWeather, with winds potentially as high as 65 mph. A travel ban will be put in place at 9 p.m. Saturday. The last time a playoff game was moved because of weather, the NFL changed the time of the Steelers' 2016 divisional-round game in Kansas City from 1:05 p.m. ET to 8:20 p.m. ET.

NFL Super Wild Card Weekend: Rivalries renewed as playoffs kick off

Only the best of the best have booked their spot in the ‘win or go home’ portion of the season, with just a few more victories standing between them and football immortality. The first stage of this year’s postseason begins on Saturday, with ‘Super Wild Card Weekend’ throwing up a host of familiar faces traveling to familiar places to intrigue fans.

Browns | 11 - 6 @ Texans | 10 - 7

The opening playoff game of the 2023 season will see a clash of two quarterbacks at opposing points of their careers. The Houston Texans, spearheaded by rookie sensation CJ Stroud, will host the Cleveland Browns, who have undergone a late-season surge with veteran signal-caller Joe Flacco at the helm. Both have had remarkable years for very different reasons.

Dolphins | 11 - 6 @ Chiefs | 11 - 6

Although the Miami Dolphins’ Week 18 loss to the Buffalo Bills meant they missed out on the AFC’s No. 2 seed and their season ended in slight disappointment, it did set up the weekend’s first reunion of familiar faces.

Steelers | 10 - 7 @ Bills | 11 - 6

The Pittsburgh Steelers’ season has been difficult to make sense of. Although it ended with a record of 10-7 and a spot in the postseason, Pittsburgh cycled through a series of quarterbacks following up-and-down play, with Mason Rudolph who began the year as the team’s third-string quarterback – finishing the season and providing an offensive jolt to spark a three-game winning run to end the campaign.

Packers | 9 - 8 @ Cowboys | 12 - 5

There will be yet another reunion when the Green Bay Packers travel to face the Dallas Cowboys. Dallas is coached by Mike McCarthy, who spent 13 seasons as Packers head coach, winning the Super Bowl in 2011. His time in Green Bay fizzled out after years of playoff underachievement, but he has added life to his coaching career with a successful stint in Dallas, leading “America’s Team” to 12 wins and the playoffs in three of the four years he’s been with the team.

Rams | 10 - 7 @ Lions |12 - 5

Sunday’s primetime game sees familiar faces meet again as the Los Angeles Rams go on the road to take on the Detroit Lions. It’ll be Rams quarterback Mathew Stafford’s first game back in Detroit since he was traded to Los Angeles in 2021. Stafford was drafted by the Lions with the first overall pick in the 2009 draft before spending 12 seasons with the team. He won a Super Bowl ring in his first season in California. For the Lions, their quarterback jared Goff – drafted by the Rams with the first overall pick in the 2016 draft before being traded to Detroit as part of the deal to send Stafford in the opposite direction – will play against his former team and head coach Sean McVay.

Eagles | 11 - 6 @ Buccaneers | 9 - 8

The final game of ‘Super Wild Card Weekend’ could have massive ramifications. Both the Philadelphia Eagles and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have huge pressure riding on the outcome of their playoff game, with both head coaches’ jobs potentially on the line. Following a Super Bowl defeat last year and the discontent surrounding the team, rumors of a coaching change have begun to percolate and could come to fruition should an early playoff loss take place.

ACF Wild Card: Cleveland (14) @ Houston (45)

Cleveland

Flacco, who turns 39 in three days, came off the couch to go 4-1 as a starter to end the regular season and lead the Browns (11-7) to just their third playoff appearance since their 1999 expansion rebirth, but second in four seasons under coach Kevin Stefanski. He finished with 307 yards and had a touchdown pass in the first half, but his mistakes under pressure in the third quarter were too much for the Browns. Flacco finished with 307 yards and had a touchdown pass in the first half, but his mistakes under pressure in the third quarter were too much for the Browns to overcome.

Houston

Stroud threw for 236 yards and three touchdowns before halftime as the Texans built a 24-14 lead. The defense took over after that, with Steven Nelson and Christian Harris returning interceptions for touchdowns on consecutive drives in the third quarter to extend the lead to 38-14. Collins had six receptions for 96 yards and a touchdown, and Devin Singletary ran for 66 yards and a late score for Houston. At 22 years and 102 days old, Stroud passed Michael Vick, who was 22 years, 192 days old in 2002 when his Falcons beat the Packers.

ACF Wild Card: Miami (7) @ Kansas City (26)

Miami

the injury-depleted Dolphins (11-7) looked nothing like the same dynamic offense that led the league in yards. Tua Tagovailoa was pressured relentlessly by the NFL's second-ranked defense, wide receiver Tyreek Hill had a 53-yard TD catch but was otherwise shut down in his return to Kansas City, and the Dolphins finished with 264 yards in all. They have not won at Arrowhead Stadium since Nov. 6, 2011, nor won a playoff game since Dec. 30, 2000.The Dolphins never threatened down the stretch in their 11th straight loss when game-time temps are 40 degrees or less.

Kansas City

Mahomes threw for 262 yards, found Rashee Rice eight times for 130 yards and a touchdown, and made several daring runs for key first downs. Isiah Pacheco pounded over the frozen turf for 89 yards and another score. And the Chiefs shut down a prolific Miami offense in a 26-9 victory in the wild-card round of the playoffs. Harrison Butker added four field goals for the reigning Super Bowl champs, who appear to be warming up for another run. The Chiefs get to live with another win in their 15th consecutive home playoff game, not counting a trio of Super Bowls that netted them two Lombardi Trophies.

NFC Wild-Card: Green Bay (48) @ Dallas (32)

Green Bay

Jordan Love threw for three touchdowns, Aaron Jones ran for three more and Darnell Savage returned an interception 64 yards for a score, Romeo Doubs had a career-high 151 yards receiving a week after being hospitalized with a chest injury and the Green Bay Packers handed the Dallas Cowboys their first home loss since the 2022 opener in a 48-32 wild-card stunner Sunday. The Packers have never lost in six trips to AT&T Stadium, including the Super Bowl over Pittsburgh during the 2010 season. They now have two playoff victories over the Cowboys

Dallas

Dak Presott threw two interceptions before three mostly empty touchdown passes in another playoff flop for him and the No. 2 seed Cowboys (12-6).Prescott finished 41 of 60 for 403 yards, with all three of his touchdowns to tight end jake Ferguson. Dallas had won its previous 16 regular-season home games, but now has allowed the most points in a game in the club's postseason history. The previous high was 38. The Cowboys, who haven't reached an NFC championship since the most recent of their five Super Bowl titles 28 years ago. Dallas is the first team to win at least 12 games in three consecutive playoff seasons without making a conference title game.

NFC Wild-Card: Los Angeles Rams (23) @ Detroit (24)

Los Angeles Rams

Mathew Stafford, who played most of the game with a bandaged and bloody hand after he slammed it into a defender's helmet, finished 25 of 36 for 367 yards with two touchdowns. Record-breaking rookie Puka Nacua had nine receptions for 181 yards.

Detroit

Jared Goff threw for a touchdown and completed a game-sealing first down against the team that cast him away, and the Detroit Lions won a playoff game for the first time in 32 years, beating Mathew Stafford. The Lions (13-5) ended a nine-game postseason losing streak, the longest in NFL history.

Dolphins-Chiefs playoff game on Peacock sets streaming record

Saturday night's AFC wild-card playoff game between the Miami Dolphins and Kansas City Chiefs on Peacock set a record for the most-watched event on a streaming service. According to Nielsen, the Chiefs' 26-7 victory in frigid temperatures averaged 23 million viewers on Peacock, NFL+ and on NBC affiliates in Kansas City and Miami. Nielsen also reported Sunday night that the game had a total reach of 27.6 million. Fans had to pay for a Peacock subscription, which starts at $5.99, to watch the game, making it the NFL's first playoff game behind a paywall -- a move by the league that generated no shortage of complaints from fans. Under the NFL's contract, each of its four broadcast partners -- NBC, CBS, Fox and ESPN/ABC -- gets at least one wild-card game. Of the two remaining games, one rotates each year between NBC, CBS and Fox, while the other will likely be up for bid each year. That means Peacock, Paramount+, Amazon or ESPN+ could eventually be in the running.

Dak Prescott backs Mike McCarthy as Jerry Jones mum on coach's future

Before the Cowboys' 48-32 playoff loss to the Green Bay Packers in the wild-card round was even finished Sunday, there were questions swirling about the job status of Dallas coach Mike McCarthy. Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones, now 81 and a 28th season removed from the franchise's last Super Bowl appearance, would not get into what might or might not happen with McCarthy as Jones stood outside the locker room after the game.

"I haven't thought one second about it," Jones said. "I know how hard, how much it meant to our fans to advance. What this loss to me means, again, not how [or] why, who didn't do what, all of that type of thing -- the only thing on my mind almost this entire game was not an analysis of our strategy, not an analysis of our play, it was, 'Do we get to play here again next week?' And we can't. That could have happened by a point or it could have happened the way it happened out there. That's all I've thought about. It's real."

McCarthy has one more year left on his contract. He is 42-25 in four regular seasons with the Cowboys, including three straight 12-win campaigns and NFC East titles in 2021 and 2023. But he has just one playoff victory, and Sunday's loss came with the Cowboys having the chance to play two postseason contests at AT&T Stadium before a potential NFC Championship Game.

"I think the biggest thing is we're disappointed," McCarthy said. "I got a whole team in the locker room that's hurting. I haven't thought past the outcome of this game."

A number of Dallas players stood up for their coach, including quarterback Dak Prescott and left guard Tyler Smith. They said they appreciated McCarthy's willingness to take care of their health and well-being during the course of the season.

"He's been amazing. I don't know how there can be [questions about his status], but I understand the business," Prescott said. "In that case then there should be about me, as well, honestly. I mean, that guy -- I've had the season I've had because of him. This team has had the success that they've had because of him. And I understand it's about winning the Super Bowl, and that's the standard of the league and damn sure the standard of this place. I get it. But add me to the list in that case."

AFC Wild-Card: Pittsburgh (17) @ Buffalo (31)

Pittsburgh

Rudolph, a longtime backup, took over for the injured Kenny Pickett and ineffective Mitch Trubisky to lead the Steelers to three straight wins to close the regular season and was given the playoff start even after Pickett recovered from an ankle injury. The Steelers came out flat, allowing Buffalo to score touchdowns on three of its first five possessions and build a 21-0 lead. Mason Rudolph threw two touchdown passes in his first playoff start for the Steelers (10-8)

Buffalo

Josh Allen threw three touchdown passes and scored on a franchise playoff-record 52-yard touchdown run. Allen finished 21 of 30 for 203 yards and ran for 74 yards on eight carries, becoming the first quarterback in NFL playoff history to throw three or more TD passes while rushing for 70 or more yards and a score.

NFC Wild-Card: Philadelphia (9) @ Tampa Bay (32)

Philadelphia

The Eagles played without leading receiver A.J. Brown, who injured a knee in the regular-season finale. Hurts started despite dislocating the middle finger on his throwing hand the previous week, and was 25 of 35 for 250 yards and one TD before being replaced by backup Marcus Mariota in the final minute. The Eagles entered Monday night looking for a solution to what ailed them during a stunning about-face that saw them go 1-5 down the stretch after a 10-1 start to the season that included a dominant 14-point victory over Tampa Bay in Week 3.

Tampa Bay

Mayfield threw for 337 yards and three touchdowns, and Tampa Bay's defense never allowed Hurts and Philadelphia's sputtering offense to get into a rhythm before a crowd of 63,397 at Raymond James Stadium. The Bucs (10-8) won for the sixth time in seven games to advance to a NFC divisional round. The Bucs, who lost to the Lions 20-6 in Week 6, regrouped following a stretch in which they lost six of seven games to go 5-1 over the last six weeks of the regular season to win their third straight NFC South title and clinch a franchise-record fourth consecutive playoff berth.

The NFL postseason is officially headed to the divisional round and if you like rematches, then this is the round for you. Of the four games being played this weekend, three of them will be rematches from the regular season. The only divisional game that's not a rematch will be happening at Levi's Stadium where the San Francisco 49ers will be hosting the Green Bay Packers. Although those two teams didn't play this year, they are definitely very familiar with each other: This will mark the third time in five seasons that the Packers and 49ers have met in the postseason. It's also their 10th playoff meeting overall, which is the NFL record for most postseason games between two teams.

Divisional Round

Saturday, Jan. 20

(4) Texans at (1) Ravens, 4:30 p.m. ET (ESPN/ABC). This is a rematch of game that was played all the way back in Week 1. In C.J. Stroud's debut. the Ravens kept him in check for a 25-9 win. The Texans are the only NFL team that has never won a game in the divisional round and they've also never won a road game in the playoffs.

(7) Packers at (1) 49ers, 8 p.m. ET (Fox). This will mark the third time in the past five seasons that these two teams have met in the postseason with Kyle Shanahan's 49ers going 2-0 against Matt LaFleur and the Packers.
Sunday, Jan. 21

(4) Buccaneers at (3) Lions, 3 p.m. ET (NBC). The Lions will be hosting their first divisional round home game since January 1992, and they'll be facing a Buccaneers team they beat 20-6 back in Week 6. This game will feature the No. 1 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft (Jared Goff) facing the No. 1 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft (Baker Mayfield).

(3) Chiefs at (2) Bills, 6:30 p.m. ET (CBS, Paramount+). For the third time in five seasons, these two teams will be meeting in the playoffs. We all remember their last postseason meeting back in January 2022 when the Chiefs put together a scoring drive in just 13 seconds to send the game to overtime (The Chiefs would eventually win). These two teams actually played in Kansas City back in Week 14 with the Bills winning 20-17. This is the seventh time that Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes have faced each other and the series is currently tied at three.
