AFC Divisional Round: Houston (10) @ Baltimore (34)

Houston

Stroud threw for 175 yards and didn’t take a single sack against a tough Baltimore defensive front, but the Texans dropped to 0-5 in the divisional round of the playoffs. They’re the only current franchise that hasn’t reached a conference championship game. Penalties held the Texans back all day. Sims’ return was the only TD for the Texans, whose offense never did reach the end zone in 120 minutes against the Ravens this season.

Baltimore

Lamar Jackson threw two touchdown passes and ran for two scores. Jackson rushed for 821 yards during the regular season, which is a big part of the case for his second MVP award. Jackson also passed for 152 yards. He won a playoff game for the second time in five starts. Now Baltimore will host the AFC title game for the first time since January 1971, when the Colts beat the Oakland Raiders on their way to a Super Bowl championship.

NFC Divisional Round: Green Bay (21) @ San Francico (24)

Green Bay

The Packers moved the ball easily in the first half, getting into the red zone on three straight drives to open the game. But they couldn't finishing any of them off, setting for two field goals and getting stopped on a fourth-and-1 sneak. They became the first team in 20 years to reach the red zone on their first three drives of a playoff game without getting a TD.

San Francisco

Christian McCaffrey scored his second touchdown on a 6-yard run with 1:07 to play, and the San Francisco 49ers mounted their first second-half comeback of the season to beat the Green Bay Packers. Purdy went 6 for 7 for 47 yards on the decisive drive, converting a third down to Brandon Aiyuk and then a 17-yarder to Chris Conley. The Niners were the first team to make the playoffs in 13 seasons without overcoming a second-half deficit to win a game.

AFC Divisional Round | Kansas City (27) @ Buffalo (24)

Kansas City

Travis Kelce caught two touchdown passes from Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs advanced to their sixth straight AFC championship game. Kansas City has never lost in the divisional round since Mahomes took over as starter in 2018, and the Chiefs have now won five consecutive playoff games since a 27-24 overtime loss to Cincinnati in the AFC championship game during the 2021 season. Isiah Pacheco scored the go-ahead touchdown on a 4-yard run 40 seconds into the fourth quarter in a game the teams traded leads five times.

Buffalo

The Bills (12-7) had their third consecutive postseason end in the divisional round, following losses to Cincinnati last year and the Chiefs in 2021. And the Chiefs ended Buffalo’s season for the third time in four years, including a 38-24 decision at Kansas City in the 2020 season AFC championship game. It was another disappointing finish for a Bills team that won its fourth consecutive AFC East title, and was on a six-game roll since a 20-17 win at Kansas City on Dec. 10.

Experienced officiating crew to work Super Bowl

The NFL has named Bill Vinovich as its lead referee for Super Bowl LVIII, Vinovich's third such assignment and his second in the past five years. The league has kept a tight circle of referees in recent seasons for its most important game of the year. In addition to Vinovich, referee Carl Cheffers has also worked two Super Bowls in that five-year time period, with Ron Torbert receiving the other assignment. Vinovich's regular-season crews typically average the fewest, or close to the fewest, flags per game. In 2023, his crew averaged 13.4 flags per game, tied for the seventh fewest, according to ESPN Stats & Information. Vinovich also worked Super Bowls XLIX and LIV. His full crew for next month's game is as follows:

Umpire: Terry Killens
Down judge: Patrick Holt
Line judge: Mark Perlman
Field judge: Tom Hill
Side judge: Allen Baynes
Back judge: Brad Freeman
Replay official: Mike Chase

Perlman, Hill and Chase all have previous Super Bowl experience.
