Kathy Bates? American Horror Story Accent Identified ? Flavorwire
To get to the bottom of this, we sent some clips from the show to John McWhorter, Columbia professor, occasional political commentator, and linguist. You might know him from his excellent TED Talk on texting as “fingered speech,” an elegant defense of a form of communication that is definitely not destroying the English language as we know it, thankyouverymuch.
After McWhorter got past his initial impression (“What a weird show”), he told us exactly what Bates was getting at. Turns out one of the guesses above was right! Drumroll, please…
“She’s trying to do Baltimore, especially old-time working class Baltimore,” McWhorter wrote us over email. “It’s a little shaky — she has a way of slightly overdoing accents.”
Also, wonder what is up with Dennis O'Hare's PENIS.
Neil Patrick Harris is joining the Freak Show. And no, we're not talking about the Oscars.
Harris and his husband, David Burtka, will guest-star on American Horror Story later this season, TV.com has confirmed.
Harris will play a "chameleon salesman" in the final two episodes of Freak Show, and Burtka will appear in the season finale as part of a "sexy storyline" with Elsa Mars (Jessica Lange), according to TV Line, which first reported the news.
Series creator Ryan Murphy invited Harris to appear on American Horror Story: Freak Show back in July, after Harris expressed interest in doing so. The two previously collaborated when Harris guest-starred on an episode of Glee in the Fox musical's first season.
There's no word on whether Harris will sing on Freak Show. Regardless, the stint could be a nice warm-up for his upcoming variety series on NBC.
I must have missed Dot and Bett going to live with Dandy last week because I thought I'd missed an episode when I saw them there.
