Anime Appreciation

Keep in mind I've only been into any of this since my last roommate locked all the TVs to Adult Swim last October...

Cowboy Bebop = God of course. I'm shelling out the money for all the Fullmetal Alchemist DVDs as they come out, I'll just live with it if a discount box comes out later with more extras. Also just picked up the Platinum set of Neon Genesis Evangelion, I didn't like that at first but it's really grown on me.

Also love Samurai Champloo, Lupin III, Bobobo-Bo Bobo-Bo, and Gravitation. I like Inuyasha, and Ghost in the Shell but 2nd Gig is even talkier than the first edition if that were possible. Naruto is OK but I haven't gotten heavily into it on Cartoon Network with all my diehard friends constantly poo-pooing it for being edited. Full Metal Panic is cool too. I want to see Wolf's Rain, haven't caught that yet.

Also recorded all the Miyazaki movies as they were shown on TCM, also Steamboy which was quite good.

Hmm? ;)

Well, yes, but Shugo(pretty sure that's her name) devolps a crush on "her" and thinks the real Hideki is a perv, or, how does she say it? Bra Man?

Yes, I love Lupin the III, it's one of my all time favs, and of course who doesn't love Cowboy Bebop, Samuria Champloo and FullMetal Alchemist?
And, you know, I think Bobobo-Bobo-Bobobo is really starting to grow on me.

^^Well, duh! There are few things on this earth that are better than Puni Puni Poemy!

Great stuff, though the only Miyazaki movie that I've truly been able to appreciate is Mononoke-Hime......err...Princess Mononoke. I really enjoy that movie.

Though I'll bet you had a thing for 'Colorful' didn't you? ;)

Actually, I havn't seen it, but they do have it for rent at Samurai. But it seems that one must be 18 or older to see it...What exactly are you impling there, Mr. SG? ;)

With a name like Yuri, and all the panty shots and whatnot that comprise that disc, it only seemed natural that you'd have seen it. ;)

Sweeeeeet! So what your saying is, it's like the hentai version of Najica: Panty Shot Tactics? Oh yeah, that's jumping up a few spaces on my "To Rent" list.

It's not Hentai, as in there's no sex. Just a lot of panty shots, and stuff of that nature.

It's an ADV title after all. ;)

Wait, ADV doesn't do hentai? Huh...looks like "Colorful" just got knocked down a couple of spaces. All well, more time for Steel Angel Kurumi, Chobits and Pita-Ten!

Glad to see we have more anime fans here.

You have a lot of anime Rommie, I think I might beat you by just maybe 1 or 2 titles.

Rommie, a decent anime I would suggest is Angel Heart a branch off of the City Hunter series and Air Gear and show with good music.

Haven't seen either of those series you just said, DL, but I may eventually get to it someday. As you can probably imagine, I have an incredible backlog.

I'm kind of pissed today, cause I went to pick up my Gundam SEED Destiny Vol. 2, and it was the only thing that hadn't come in yet!!!

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr :kitty:

I trust you Know of ANN, the anime news network. Best place to figure out what's being released when and where and even better if you need a series described.

I would suggest if you like City Hunter, or if you've never seen it, something that's somewhat serious and hilariously funny at the same time, check out Angel Heart. 52 episodes and only 15 translated right now.

You can pick them up at animesuki.

But I understand the backlog. I've got about 50 episodes of various things to watch and some old school series to check up on.

Really, I've always liked storyline and Art. Anime for me is the culmination and evolution of those.

I'll do the same thing with movies. If something has a great storyline I'll watch it, even if I think the acting sucks ass.

Can you guys tell me the appeal of anime? I guess I don't get it....
The appeal of anime to me, is that you can do almost anything in an anime. Things that you can't do in RL acting, even with special effects. I like how it can help convey comedy, action, drama, intrigue, and come across beautifully while doing it.

I like how I can be swept away and for 20 minutes, forget what's going on in the outside world, and be totally hooked on a story. Those 20 some minutes can seem a lot longer when the story is good enough.

I always said I'd never grow up, and always watch cartoons. This allows me to keep watching cartoons, with a little bit more maturity to it. ;)

Hey, I watch those teenage Canadian dramas at 21. (Degrassi, Instant Start) Im hooked. Their target audience is like 13-15 :P
