I liked it and thought Titanic was one of the top 30 movies ever made.

Yeah, that's why we all wub you so much, my sweet little fluffybunny <3

As for Avatar - I'm with Eggs here, for something he had 10 years to create, the script is incredibly lame. It just came across as a big smorgasbord of 'plot-elements-that-every-major-blockbuster-should-have', but unfortunately, every one of those elements has already been done better, more convincingly, and with better dialogue in other movies. I wouldn't be surprised if Cameron had already finished the script in 1999 and took the remaining 10 years to just work on the visuals. 10 years ago, the story might have been satisfying, but today the 'peaceful natives are being screwed over by teh government and have to depend on a good soldier boy-turned-messiah to come into their own is just...stale.

All, I know is this...I paid good money to be entertained...and I was...

I am sooooooo looking forward to the demented Alice in Wonderland in 3D....it has the delectable Johnny Depp....I can't even think his name without getting excited.

On THAT, we agree. :D

Yep. Loved the visuals, fuck the story.
As a side note, as I'm currently writing a screenplay, just how different will it be if it ever gets optioned and produced from what I wrote?

Haven't seen it, heard story is liek totally 30 yrs old and shitful; effects didn't carry it over the finish line

Saw the screener yesterday. I'm glad I didn't give Cameron my money. I was so disappointed I was not surprised by it at all, that everyone who was telling it was worth it were wrong. Everyone who you thought was going to die did. Everyone who was initially mistrustful by you knew they'd come around..did. For such an amount of money, you'd think they'd have worked up a script worth it. But no. No surprises. Why am I not surprised?

The Big Final Epic Confrontation was worth nothing more than giggle value. For the last hour of the film, the only way I was willing to put up with it was by riffing and oddly the wife who usually get pissed off at me for downing a film before seeing all of it, joined in.

And I couldn't help looking at Giovanni Ribisi and thinking of My Name is Earl.

I wrote a review about it here and at my board. Seeing it in 3D was kinda cool, but the more I thought about it after I saw it, the more I disliked it.

I might go see it while a couple of nearby theaters are still showing it in 3D, because I won't be watching it otherwise. I am well aware that it's Pocahontas with aliens instead of indians, but for a popcorn movie, I reckon it would not be bad.

The biggest annoyance was the political preaching. When it comes to this stuff, Cameron has all the subtlety of a jackhammer.

The preaching was bad, but WTF did every alien animal have six legs or fifteen eyes or two sets of wings? To make them alien, LIKE BEING ON AN ALIEN PLANET WITH GLOW IN THE DARK FLORA AND EIGHT FOOT CAT PEOPLE WASN'T ENOUGH

Passed Titanic as highest grossing movie ever. Bullshit! Should go by ticket sales in which case Gone With The Wind will always be #1.

Interesting comments on the movie. I was impressed with the CGI, special effects, technical artistry, and sound effects. In my opinion, the story was lame because it was predictable. You knew from the minute you saw the girl walking on the limb of the tree, just after she'd saved him from a horrible death, that they would wind up together. That is standard storytelling fare - boy meets girl. The foreshadowing of every plot event was so obvious it was painful. I'm so terribly un-PC that I didn't get worked up about the white male saves savages story line. To me, it was just the typical one group of people doing major damage to another group of people for some stupid reason which is so very much like people in real life. It was like the news with better graphics.
