2023 NFL draft: Latest on Carolina Panthers No. 1 pick
Young over Stroud? Stroud over Young? Many in the league who were interviewed believe it will be Stroud, mostly because the former Ohio State quarterback, at 6-foot-3 and 214 pounds, fits the physical stature that first-year Carolina coach Reich is accustomed to working with.
The 2023 NFL draft is over after three days in downtown Kansas City, Missouri. ESPN has pick-by-pick analysis of each of the Carolina Panthers’ selections:
No.1: (QB) Bryce Young, Alabama....The Panthers finally got it right. After three years of trying to salvage the careers of retread quarterbacks,
No.39: (WR) Jonathan Mingo, Ole Miss....The Panthers lost a physical receiver in Moore in the trade with Chicago for the No. 1 overall selection. They picked up one in Mingo
No.80: (LB) DJ Johnson, Oregon...He has the size and speed (4.49 40) Carolina wants coming off the edge as they transition from a 4-3 to a 3-4 defense
No.114: (G) Chandler Zavala, NC States...He is a polished run blocker, which fits the team’s plan to continue with the power running game it thrived on last season, while Young develops at quarterback.
No.145: (DB) Jammie Robinson, Florida State...Robinson fills a need for depth at safety, where Jeremy Chinn is expected to play more of a hybrid linebacker role than safety as Carolina transitions to the 3-4 scheme
Bryce Young projected to start even though he begins as Panthers' backup
Carolina Panthers quarterback Bryce Young got the jersey number he wanted earlier this week after 2022 third-round pick Matt Corral agreed to switch from No. 9 to No. 2. The first pick of the 2023 draft will have to earn what he wants most, though.

Bryce Young in 'complete command' on first day of rookie camp
Perhaps the biggest surprise of Young's NFL practice debut was that afterward nobody asked about his size (5-foot-10, 204 pounds), something that was a constant theme during his pre-draft and even initial post-draft interviews.
Carolina Panthers' schedule 2023: Takeaways, predictions
Young, currently listed second on the depth chart behind Andy Dalton, will be the Week 1 starter against Atlanta. He’ll get off to a 2-0 start on his way to winning Offensive Rookie of the Year just as Newton did in 2011. Young will one-up Newton (6-10 as a rookie) by leading Carolina to the playoffs for the first time since 2017.

Inside Josh McMown process of evaluating QB's, Bryce Young
Bryce Young generated plenty of buzz before he became Carolina's first overall pick in this year's draft, and McCown turned on Young's tape with the same checklist he used to evaluate every quarterback.
Ejiro Evero has seen great improvement in early offseason program
Evero brought a new scheme from the Broncos to the Panthers, heralding the transition from a 4-3 to 3-4 base defense. And from the start of voluntary veteran camp to the conclusion of rookie minicamp ahead of next week's OTA opener, Evero has watched it get better.
How Panthers' Andy Dalton is embracing role as Bryce Young mentor
It was just a moment from a recent offseason workout. But it reminded anyone who saw it that the competitive spirit Dalton had in 2011 as a second-round pick by the Cincinnati Bengals still exists as he begins his 13th season in the NFL, this one with the Carolina Panthers.
