I don't know if they actually sell pianos at John Lewis but yeah it's a good advert and I'm finding all these Christmas adverts featuring mothers hard to watch. (Sidenote: Elton John and his mum fell out in later life and didn't talk for years before her death so I wonder if you're supposed to think of that?)
Wow. Almost every single comment on that Tesco ad is from some EDL loon. It must’ve been shared on one of their forums or Facebook. I didn’t even notice that there was a Muslim woman in it (how dare she play scrabble with her neighbours during CHRISTmas?!). It’s as though Tesco wants to represent all their customers in one advert!
^It's weird how they all become Christians at Christmas, isn't it? I seriously doubt any of them are going to church weekly or actually following Christ's teachings (pretty sure he would be against racism!)
There's definitely a mother theme going on this year, was a memo sent out about it or something @headvoid?
Boots...
Going to be honest...I found it a bit cringey. I'm sure the majority of people loved it (has nearly 100% thumbs up, but that could be because it's a white mother and daughter in it!) and maybe I'm just an unfeeling monster or something. Also seeing your mother sing in public could actually be quite embarrassing! But no, at least it has a memorable hook with the song.
Sainsbury's...
Comments are wisely disabled to stop racist comments about a child. It's very well done but again didn't make me feel much. Also I doubt a school would put on such an elaborate Christmas performance! I do like the bit where a child dressed as a giant plug jumps into a giant electrical socket.
So why does the John Lewis advert move me but these two don't? Do John Lewis hire "emotion scientists" to design their adverts?
The making of of the John Lewis one interested me too. I’d assumed they used a combination of archive footage and actors to show his younger days, but I was surprised to find it’s all made for the ad. The shot of him jumping on the piano at the stadium was really convincing.
Marks and Spencer have...Holly Willoughby crawling around on the floor in a skirt. Which is obviously going to get some attention.
I have no idea if the other people in the ad are famous too? Like the guy with the rubber gloves on who the mother in law wants to fuck looks vaguely familiar (celebrity chef?) but I don't know really. It's pretty forgettable! Good skirt though.
The fancy chocolate commercials annoy me. They are snooty and act as if everyone is having an orgasm when they eat them. Sort of like the tea room back in the day.
Ferrero chocolate and Lindor chocolate.
