This spider was caught in my house. That isn't me holding the glass-I am afraid of spiders!

About 5 years ago I had an enlightening experience with a brown recluse spider. I was almost asleep when I felt some on my skin. Thinking it ws a fly I just rolled over on it. Bad move. The bastard bit me about 3 times. I smashed him and nothing was left but some transluscent brown legs. I went to work the next day and about noon I broke out in a rash and sweat was pouring off of me. The place where he bit me turned as black as night and eventually reached the size of a quarter.

I went to the Doctor that day and she said the only treatment is steroids for swelling and antiobiotics for infection. No antivenin. I spent the rest of the week in bed sick and evenutally ended up with a dime size-scar. People often lose fingers to these little beasts. I made the mistake of looking up the bites on the internet and was greeted with some really horrible sights.

What you have in the glass doesn't look like one, but I don't trust any of them anymore.
