I want to smell dark matter
The time came, as it always did. All the wanks, all the sleepness nights, all the loneliness, all the insanity he felt in that hotel room...they didn't matter int he end. Johnny met up with Charlize's brother. He'd forgotten the kid's name, but it didn't matter anyway. He was good to his word and gave Johnny a ticket that gave him access with the rest of the friends and family of the housemates. They were treated far bettr than those who had to queue to get in, the normal fans. The security guards didn't even look at him. He just showed his ticket and they whisked him right in. Of course he still had to be careful. There were a lot of crew around, most of them had worked on the show when Johnny had been a housemate a couple of years earlier. But he looked different, even from that time he'd jumped the stage a month ago. He'd grown a beard. His hair was shorter. And he kept smiling at people, when they did look at him. That made them break eye contact. People found Johnny's smile unnerving in some way.
And so the final came. Charlize did better than expected, placing higher than both the exhausted older housemate and the nerdy guy whose popularity had dropped after he admitting smelling all the female housemates' panties. Johnny stood up and cheered when she left the house (her reception was pretty good, considering) and she looked over and smiled at her brother and looked briefly confused on seeing Johnny. The friends and family got to go into the studio for her interview. This would have been the perfect time for Johnny to make his move. But...he didn't want to ruin her moment. She seemed so happy to be on tv. Johnny remembered feeling that way. He didn't know what he felt now.
He hung out in the studio for the rest of the show, as the other housemates were being interviewed. Every time he thought of running on stage....but what would he say? He'd had a plan once, but it was gone now.
He wondered if anyone even remembered him. He hadn't heard the name "Johnny Nose" being whispered once in the hours he'd been there. Would anyone care if he did make his move? It was happening again. He was feeling small, pathetic...useless...
He started to cry at the winner was being interviewed. Some of the people sitting around him noticed, and even Sally the host looked over. Then he saw the winner, Craig, looking over at him too.
"Looks like your fans are emotional about your win!" said Sally.
"Wait...that's Johnny Nose!"" said Craig.
"Oh shit, it is," said Sally. She looked around for security. But Johnny didn't move. He just sat there. Even though there was now a camera in his face and he was being shown on the big screen outside. He heard the crowd start to make noise. Some cheered, some booed, some gasped. Some asked who he was. And still he didn't say anything. He just sat there crying.
"Didn't you die?" asked the person sitting next to him.
"No," said Johnny, at last. "I won. Not like Craig did, and congratulations to him. I won...the world."
A big cheer went up at that, as Johnny had sounded so sincere.
He had no idea what it had meant though.
Security came over but didn't ask him to leave. One of the prodcuers came to talk to him and asked if he'd do a short interview on the spin-off show which would air after the final. All the housemates from the series would be there, but the producer wanted to talk to Johnny Nose.
"No thank," said Johnny. "I've said all I needed to say. This part of my life is over now. Fame...it never really suited Johnny Nose. No more of this. No more YouTube. It's time to disappear into the shadows. It's time to go back to the beginning."
"We'lll pay you five hundred quid," said the producer.
"Oh, well, okay then!" said Johnny. "As long as I get to talk about Alison Brie!"
