LHC first beam successful and we're not dead

But that was just a test to see if they can shoot the beam around the LHC. They didn't actually do a collision yet. The collision will happen on Oct, 21. So, the black hole crap won't actually happen 'till then.
 
I've been watching the live broadcast of the first beam and they couldn't even get the beam halfway around the LHC.

LHC = fail
 
OK, the beam made it's first full cycle of the LHC. The TEST BEAM IS DONE. Again, I say that the REAL collision test won't be until Oct.

However, the guy who's in charge of this whole thing seemed nervous and worried the whole time. Also, most of the test cycles didn't go as planned. Which makes me think they won't be able to predict the outcome of the first collision. I'm worried that these morons are gonna kill us all. Why couldn't they make this damned thing in space, next to the sun? Where if something went wrong they could just shoot the thing into the corona and eliminate the problem.

I used my superstar mind-ray on him and found that instead of thinking "Oh my god what if I divide by zero/blow up the universe," he was really thinking "Oh my god did I leave my Blackberry on that superconductor past the Atlas detector again? All my fucking passwords are on it!"
 
I read somewhere that if it does create black holes that can destroy the earth, it won't happen for 4 years.

OMFG THE WORLD IS GOING TO END IN 2012!

I'd link, but I was reading a bunch of articles on it last night, that I don't remember the exact one.

LHC has so far cost an estimated $10 billion to build, while its annual operating cost remains a “secret.” I'd say the guy has a lot to be "nervous and worried" about WITHOUT the world annihilation and black hole bullshit.

They should delay the first actual collision until December 21st, 2012. Just to give the doomsayers a run for their money. :D
 
Or just December 12 or 20, 2012, so that the world can end on a convenient, 20/12/2012 or 12/12/12
 
We need a new motivational image with a pic of the LHC with a superimposed SwissArmy symbol on it.
The caption should read:

Something I also found interesting was an obscure thing I remember from the TV Show The Lexx. In one episode their travels on the Lexx bring them to the Earth. In that episode they talk about the population of the earth being a civilization that will cause the planet to implode. So, apparently the Sci-Fi channel has some Nostradamus motherfuckers working on their writing staff.
