Lovecraft.

I read a lot of Lovecraft quite a while ago. Around the time Clive Barker was hot. Damn, all I can remember was the writing was a little above my head. I think I was 12 or 13 when I read them.

I think I enjoyed them.

12 or 13 is a bit young for this guy. It's not exactly what someone would call 'light reading,' and there's always a word or two I need to look up when reading a set of stories.

Read 'Cool Air' in the bathroom today. Anyone else under the impression that Mr. Hardcore Atheism had a secret desire to be immortal through scientific means? Cool Air, The Reanimator, the Mi-Go's brain canisters... Hmm.

I'm no expert on Lovecraft, though I've read a lot of his stories. As for a favorite, "The Colour Out Of Space" ranks up there for the sheer fucked up rural ambience that I haven't seen recaptured until "The Blair Witch Project."

I played Call of Cthulhu some back in college, and felt it was a good game if handled properly.

Maybe someone can help me here: there was a Lovecraft story I read once, but can't remember the title. It dealt with a guy that went to visit a friend in the countryside, and the friend was under the control of flies that spoke through either jars or canisters. Know the one I'm talking about?

The Whisperer in the Darkness... Crab-critters from outer space that try to remain hidden and mine some material from Earth they can't get anywhere else.

Yeah, I think that's it, except I distinctly remember flies in there somewhere.

There was a lot of overheard buzzing --I forget if this was from the creatures (which were like lobsters with wings, I think...) or from the speakers built in those brain-cans so the brains inside could communicate.

Yeah, no kidding...Did you read "The Shadow Out of Time"? Talk about wanting to be immortal.

Just so you good folks know, I can upload an entire PDF filled with his brief writing onto my domain.

Better than any comic you can find. PM me if interested.

I personally am a big Lovecraft fan, though it's been a couple years. I THINK I've read everything by the guy but not more than once (I didn't recall the lobster / fly story above).

My favorite story is a really tough call. I'm actually going to defer until after I've taken a skim through my books...
