Menty’s Breakdown (of Games)

I'm such a Hellraiser mark.

So cool that Clive Barker(creator/director) and Doug Bradley(Hell Priest/Pinhead) are both coming back back together to make it, there hasn't been a decent movie since the late 80s when they were last both on a set together with Hellraiser 2 there's been like 9 dogshit movies since Clive Barker walked away.

Got my fingers crossed that they can do it justice and don't have people meddling in their process too much.

Warhorse are making a fucking open world Middle Earth game!

Why is that so insane beyond the potential for a game set in Middle Earth which is already exciting?

BECAUSE they are the studio responsible for Kingdom Come Deliverance. I played the first one late last year and it's now one of my ALL TIME favourite games and I will be starting KCD2 very soon once my current gaming slate is clearer. Probably after Expedition 33 which I have 130 hours in because I'm going for the plat.

They are one of the best studios out there and are not marred by modern gaming publisher nonsense. It's basically inconcievable that this isn't going to be fucking amazing. I assume it won't be out for a few years yet but this has now shot up as one of the most anticipated releases in years.

I came up with a weird fantasy in my head once where Nintendo got the rights to make a Middle Earth game and it was bascially Breath of the Wild but in Middle Earth and I'd play that.

My gaming has been on a big backburner of late because I have literally been SWAMPED with work projects. I have five different jobs I'm doing and they take up an inordinate amount of my time. BUT I am still working through some platinum's in the background whenever I have a spare hour or two.

I finished Expedition 33 months ago technically, but I still need to finish up the 100%, which is fucking brutal tbh. Warhammer: Rogue Trader is the same — they released ANOTHER expansion, so I need to finish that too. Elden Ring platinum run is still looming as well with 90 hours already invested.

I did catch yesterday's big Gamescom event in Germany though, and while I didn't care about the majority of it, the fact that a remaster of Witcher 3 is coming out next month AND they're making a new expansion for it, and it's going to be fucking FREE for existing owners, is wild. So I somehow have to slip another 100-hour playthrough of that into the schedule.

Instead of more wittering, this was a pretty good reaction to it that I share:

I heard the Witcher 3 is going to have a native Switch 2 version now, so that is a bit interesting to me. It was on Switch but it ran poorly so I haven't played it. But Fire Emblem is out in 3 weeks and that will take up MONTHS and Ocarina is still coming this year so I don't know if I could fit it in. I'm interested in Elden Ring too but again definitely not starting anything big before FE.

Do you never just consider NOT 100% everything and just stopping when you think you've played enough? That's what I do and it's freeing!

Yeah, I think the remaster is coming to Switch 2. It was already a masterpiece and easy to recommend but this remaster hits two of the only pain points in the game so it is clearly going to be the definitive version.

As far as achievement hunting, it's just how I enjoy the hobby. It's definitely not for everyone though, and I choose what I 100% pretty carefully. When I finish Warhammer 40k Rogue Trader it will have been something like a 200+ hour insane playthrough. I have used a guide to grab missable achievements and the achievements DO still matter, but you literally have to play the game through 3 times with different alignments to get the 100% and so that's a game I'll have to stare at in my library around 80% done because no way am I putting another 400 hours in to tick the boxes despite loving the game.

With something like Expedition 33, the 100% is really quite difficult but it's based around a lot of super bosses and optional content that I want to do anyway. Rolling credits on that game is not beating the game and that matters to me.
