Michael Jordan's 'Flu Game' sneakers auctioned for $1.38 million​


On the 25th anniversary of Michael Jordan's iconic game-winning shot in Game 6 of the 1998 NBA Finals, the sneakers he wore one season earlier in the infamous "Flu Game" sold for more than $1 million. Despite subsequent revelations from Jordan's trainer and "The Last Dance" documentary that he wasn't actually ailed by the flu in Game 5 of the 1997 NBA Finals -- "The Food Poisoning Game" doesn't pack the same wallop -- the sneakers that Jordan wore that night have sold for $1.38 million (including buyer's premium) with collectibles marketplace Goldin. The shoes sold at auction on Wednesday. Jordan had 38 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists in more than 44 minutes that night to lead the Bulls past the Jazz in Utah. Then he gave his signed sneakers to Jazz ball boy Preston Truman, who'd curried favor with Jordan by bringing him applesauce before games. (Truman was photographed receiving the signed kicks from Jordan, but additional photo-matching was done by MeiGray and Sports Investors Authentication; there's also a letter of authenticity from Truman.) The Bulls went on to clinch the 1997 title in six games.

Hornets sale from Micheal Jordan to Gabe Plotkin, Rick Schnall finalized
Jordan, whose run as majority owner ends after 13 years, will continue to hold a minority stake in the team. The purchase was made at an approximate $3 billion valuation; Jordan paid $275 million for a majority stake in the franchise in 2010.

Michael Jordan headlines inaugural class for Bulls' Ring of Honor​

Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen and Dennis Rodman are the headliners for the inaugural class for the Chicago Bulls' Ring of Honor. The Bulls unveiled their plans for the Ring of Honor on Tuesday. The first class includes 13 men and the 1995-96 team, which went 72-10 and won the NBA title. The franchise plans to honor the group with a couple of events in January. The inaugural class also includes Phil Jackson, Jerry Krause, Artis Gilmore, Jerry Sloan, Toni Kukoc, Bob Love, Chet Walker, Johnny "Red" Kerr, Tex Winter and Dick Klein. Jackson coached the 1995-96 team, which had Jordan, Pippen, Rodman and Kukoc, with Krause leading the front office and Winter serving as an assistant coach. The franchise plans to add to its Ring of Honor every two years, so the next class will be inducted in 2026. The criteria for players' inclusion include spending at least three seasons with the team and being retired from basketball for at least three years.

Michael Jordan's championship sneakers sell for record $8M​


A complete set of Michael Jordan championship Air Jordan sneakers, worn by Jordan during the clinching victories of his six NBA titles and six NBA Finals MVPs, sold for $8,032,800 -- a global auction record for game-worn sneakers, auction house Sotheby's said Friday. "The Dynasty Collection" represents the second-highest sum netted for Jordan memorabilia, behind the $10.1 million jersey worn in Game 1 of the 1998 "Last Dance" Finals. A pair of sneakers worn in Game 2 of that Finals sold for $2,238,000 in April, at that time the most ever paid for a pair of sneakers.

The set consists of Air Jordan VI (1991), Air Jordan VII (1992), Air Jordan VIII (1993), Air Jordan XI (1996), Air Jordan XII (1997) and Air Jordan XIV (1998). The Air Jordan VI, VIII, XI and XII sneakers are also autographed by Jordan. After each of Jordan's six titles and Finals MVPs, he was photographed with only one shoe on; Jordan had granted Bulls PR executive Tim Hallam his wish of having one of MJ's shoes if they won that first championship. Jordan, ever superstitious, honored what became a tradition five more times.

Jordan, 61, and Novant Health teamed up to open a third clinic, the Novant Health Michael Jordan Family medical Clinic on Greenfield St. in Wilmington, to bring "much-needed comprehensive primary care services," according to a release. The clinic will include medical opportunities for "individuals who are uninsured or underinsured," a cause close to the former NBA star's heart.
 

Michael Jordan Logoman card fetches $2.928 million at auction​


A 2003-04 Upper Deck Ultimate Collection autographed Michael Jordan Logoman card -- numbered 1-of-1 -- sold for $2.928 million, including buyer's premium, with collectibles marketplace Goldin late Saturday night. It was the most ever paid for a Jordan card. Logoman cards are typically limited to one copy and feature the NBA logo patch cut from, often, a game-used jersey. The lot description notes this is the first Jordan Logoman to feature a Chicago Bulls jersey. The card received an "Authentic" grade from card grader PSA and a perfect 10 on-card autograph.

Reddick wins at Homestead, gives Michael Jordan shot at NASCAR title​

Michael Jordan won a championship in Phoenix in 1993. Taylor Reddick ensured that his car owner will have a chance to win another title there this year. Reddick went high and overtook Ryan Blanet on the final turn to win at Homestead-Miami on Sunday to secure a spot in NASCAR's winner-take-all finale in Arizona in two weeks. Reddick led 98 of the 267 laps, the last of them the one that mattered most.

"The little kid drove his ass off," said Jordan, whose 1992-93 title -- the third of six NBA titles with the Chicago Bulls -- came in Phoenix against the Phoenix Suns. "I'm proud of him. ... He just let go and he just went for it. I'm glad. I'm glad. We needed it."

Reddick loves the Homestead track, and his favorite part of the place is Turns 3 and 4 -- the last two turns. He might like them even more now, because that was the stretch of track that got him a title shot in a thrilling finish. Reddick -- the regular-season champion and the driver who started from the pole Sunday, a week after he went upside down in Las Vegas -- and Joey Logano now are assured two of the four spots in NASCAR's final four at Phoenix.
