Toronto Blue Jay's acquire Cardinals reliever Jordan Hicks
Hicks, a 26-year-old right-hander, is having his best season in the major leagues and will be a free agent this winter. In 41⅔ innings, he has struck out 59 and allowed just two home runs while saving eight games.

Rangers trade for Cardinals' Jordan Montgomery,Chris
Montgomery, who is a free agent this winter, was 6-9 with a 3.42 ERA, 108 strikeouts and 35 walks over 121 innings with St. Louis. In 53⅔ innings, the fifth most of any reliever in baseball this season, Stratton sported a 4.36 ERA, though his underlying metrics suggest that he has been unlucky and could see positive regression.
Houston Astros acquire Justin Verlander from New York Mets
Verlander got off to a slow start this season but has regained his form of late, posting a 1.49 ERA over his past seven starts. Verlander, 40, returned from Tommy John surgery to capture his third Cy Young in Houston in 2022, then helped lead the team to its second World Series title in six years.
Tigers Eduardo Rodriguez blocks trade to Dodgers, sources say
Rodriguez has three years and $49 million left after this season on his original five-year deal with Detroit, but he also has an opt-out clause that he's likely to use because his performance this season (2.95 ERA, 3.18 FIP) will earn him a nice contract. Rodriguez, a left-hander, had a 10-team no-trade clause that included the Dodgers.

Reds get OF Jake Fraley from IL, lose Hunter Greene (COVID)
Fraley, 28, has not played since Aug. 3 due to a fractured toe on his left foot. He is batting .263 with 15 home runs and 63 RBIs in 92 games this season. Greene, 24, is 3-6 with a 4.75 ERA in 17 starts this season. He has struck out 114 batters in 85 1/3 innings of work.

Acuña's grand slam, off Dodgers right-hander Lance Lynn in the second inning, was also the 150th homer of his career, making him the second player in major league history to record 150 homers and 150 steals at age 25 or younger.
MLB opts to keep pitch clock rules intact for postseason
Players had expressed interest in adding time to the clock, which mandates pitchers throw the ball within 15 seconds of receiving it when the bases are empty and 20 seconds with runners on. The clock has been a rousing success, trimming the average game time by nearly 25 minutes -- to 2 hours, 39 minutes.

The All-Star slugger homered twice and drove in four runs, reaching 40 homers and 100 RBIs for the second consecutive season. Alonso's 41 home runs are tied for the second most in a season in franchise history with Beltrán and Todd Hundley. Alonso holds the team record with 53 as a rookie in 2019.
Dodgers P Julio Urias arresred on domestic violence charges
Urías, 27, was arrested just after 11 p.m. PT and booked into jail around 1 a.m., according to jail records. He was released on $50,000 bond at 4:47 a.m. and has a court date of Sept. 27.
Twins rookie Royce Lewis hits third glam slam ln 8 games
Lewis, the rookie third baseman, tied the franchise record with his third grand slam of the season -- all in the past eight games -- and has four career slams in 56 games in the majors. That's the fewest games to reach four grand slams in MLB history, passing Rudy York (132 games, hit fourth in 1938).
