A South Korean movie based on a spaghetti Western and dubbed a "kimchi Western" will be released in the United States next year, the local distributor said Wednesday.
CJ Entertainment announced a deal with the New York-based Independent Film Channel to distribute "The Good the Bad the Weird" in five major US cities including New York, Los Angeles and Chicago, Yonhap news agency reported.
It is directed by Kim Ji-Woon, who told Yonhap it was inspired by "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly," the classic 1966 film starring Clint Eastwood. It was screened in the gala section at the Cannes film festival this year.
"East meets West meets East again, with palate-tingling results, in 'The Good the Bad the Weird,' a kimchi Western that draws shamelessly on its spaghetti forebears but remains utterly, bracingly Korean," US magazine Variety wrote earlier this year.
