The published Silmarillion was not the finished article, Tolkien didn't come close to completing the stories to his satisfaction in his lifetime. Christopher Tolkien edited it together from material (much uncomplete) written over a fifty year span. The PROPER Silmarillion exists only in the real of Dream.
