Nuggets' Jamal Murray fined $100K, avoids suspension for toss

Nuggets guard Jamal Murry was fined $100,000 but avoided a suspension after tossing a towel and then a heating pad in the direction of an official during Denver's 106-80 Game 2 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves on Monday. The NBA announced the fine on Tuesday in a release from Joe Dumars, the NBA's executive vice president and head of basketball operations. Murray tossed the objects on the floor during live play with 4:41 remaining in the second quarter and the Timberwolves up 49-30. Nuggets guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope picked up the pad, tossed it to the sidelines and play continued without any whistle from the referees. Murray -- who finished Game 2 with 8 points on 3-for-18 shooting, 13 rebounds, 2 assists and 4 turnovers -- exited the arena without speaking to reporters, according to a Nuggets spokesperson. He's struggled to find his form this postseason as he continues to deal with a calf strain, shooting just 37.5% from the field through seven playoff games.

Source: Pacers file complaint to NBA over 78 calls, non-calls

The Indiana Pacers have submitted 78 instances of incorrect or non-calls to the NBA that they felt put them at a disadvantage in Games 1 and 2 against the New York Knicks, a league source told ESPN. Pacers coach Rick Carlisle, speaking after Indiana fell behind 2-0 in the Eastern Conference semifinals with a 130-121 loss to New York on Wednesday, said the team had identified 29 questionable refereeing decisions from Game 1. The source said the Pacers then identified 49 plays from Game 2 that they felt were incorrectly called or not called at all and submitted them overnight to the NBA office.

In Game 1, a kicked ball violation was called in error against the Pacers but not corrected, a decision that ended up costing the team three vital points during the 121-117 loss. The Pacers will have to examine their defensive film as well. After allowing the Knicks to shoot 65% in the second half in Game 1 as they lost a lead, New York shot 67% in the third quarter of Game 2 and flipped the game, outscoring Indiana 36-18 behind Brunson's return. One other issue for the Pacers to review as the series moves to Indianapolis for Game 3 on Friday (7 p.m. ET, ESPN) is how to guard Brunson.

He returned to the Cavs in 2014 and led them to four consecutive NBA Finals appearances, all against Golden State.

NBA Playoffs 2024: How to Watch Pacers vs. Knicks, Timberwolves vs. Nuggets Game 7s Today

The best two words in sports define today's NBA playoff action: Game 7. After continuing the trend of home team victories, Indiana Pacers took care of business Friday night at home to even up their series with the Knicks and force a decisive Game 7 today in Madison Square Garden. The winner of this contest, set for 3:30 p.m. ET (12:30 p.m. PT) on ABC, will take on the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference Finals starting on Tuesday.

After dominating displays by the Timberwolves to open the first two games, the defending NBA champion Denver Nuggets rattled off three impressive wins of their own to take command of the best-of-seven series. Thursday night, however, saw the Timberwolves once again show off their impressive defense en route to a 45-point win to knot up this series at three games apiece. Sunday, of course, will bring this deciding game with tip-off set for 8 p.m. ET (5 p.m. PT) on TNT. The winner will head to the Western Conference Finals to take on Dallas Mavericks starting on Wednesday.

2024 NBA playoffs: What will decide Celtics-Pacers and Timberwolves-Mavericks in the conference finals?

After two thrilling rounds of the 2024 NBA playoffs, we've reached the final four teams vying for the title. The defending champion Denver Nuggets? Gone, bounced by the Minnesota Timberwolves after a wild second-half comeback in Game 7. The Oklahoma City Thunder, the top seed in the Western Conference? Eliminated by the Dallas Mavericks, whose trade deadline makeover created a dangerous championship contender around superstars Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving. And then there is the East bracket, featuring a matchup few could have predicted heading into the season: the league-leading Boston Celtics against the underdog Indians Pacers, who needed a Game 7 win inside Madison Square Garden to reach their first conference finals since 2014. The Celtics, meanwhile, are here for the sixth time in eight seasons.

2024 NBA playoffs bracket, schedule, scores, games today: Mavericks looking to build 3-0 lead vs. Timberwolves

The conference finals are underway in the 2024 NBA playoffs, and the Boston Celtics and Dallas Mavericks have not dropped a single game in their current series. The fifth-seeded Mavericks are just two wins away from the NBA Finals after they went to Minneapolis and stole Games 1 and 2 from the third-seeded Timberwolves by a total of four points. Luka Doncic has outscored Anthony Edwards 65-40 in the first two games in a battle of All-NBA performers. The Western Conference finals shifts to Dallas on Sunday night, where Edwards and the Timberwolves desperately need a win to extend the series back to Minnesota.

The Celtics, up 3-0 against the Indiana Pacers, will go for the series sweep on Monday night in Indiana, where the Pacers just dropped their first game in these playoffs. Boston, the No. 1 seed in the East, rallied from 18 points down and can earn its second NBA Finals trip in three years with another win Monday. Jrue Holiday was the late hero for Boston in Game 3 when he converted a three-point play with 38.9 seconds left to give Boston its first lead in nearly 36 minutes. He followed that with the game-saving steal and two insurance free throws.

Regardless of which of the four remaining teams wins the 2024 title, the NBA will have its sixth different champion in six years, something that has not happened since 1975-1980.

Four bets for Mavericks-Timberwolves Game 3

Sunday's Game 3 of the Western Conference finals is a pivotal matchup that could determine the fate of both Dallas Mavericks and Minnesota Timberwolves. Dallas looks to take a commanding 3-0 lead and move toward punching its ticket to the NBA Finals. Meanwhile, the Timberwolves will look to steal a win on the road and prove the team still has fight left in them after two straight losses. The Mavericks are 4-2 at home in the playoffs, while the Timberwolves are 5-1 on the road, having won the first two road games in each of their past two playoff series. This should be an excellent game, so let's dig deeper into the matchup to identify some angles of interest for players and/or teams to outproduce expectation.
