Finland tops Team USA at ice hockey world championship as Canada wins third straight game
Sakari Manninen scored and added two assists as host Finland defeated the United States 4-1 to keep a perfect record at the ice hockey world championship on Monday. Finland leads Group B in Tampere with nine points from three games. Team USA has five points in third.

Gerard Gallant, Darryl Sutter, Andrew Brunette up for NHL coach of year
In his first season with the Rangers, Gallant led them to the Stanley Cup playoffs for the first time since 2017. Their .671 points percentage was the highest for the franchise since the 2014-15 season. He became just the second coach in Rangers history to post over 50 wins (52). Sutter coached his first full season in Calgary after returning to the Flames' bench during the 2020-21 season. Calgary had the biggest season-over-season improvement by any NHL team in 2021-22, winning the Pacific Division. In his first NHL head-coaching gig, Brunette led the Panthers to the franchise's first Presidents' Trophy as the top regular-season team in the league. They were the NHL's highest-scoring team since the 1995-96 season.

Carolina Hurricanes 'go back home and regroup' after fifth road playoff loss evens series at 2-2
The Carolina Hurricanes remained winless on the road in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, losing 4-1 to the New York Rangers on Tuesday as their second-round series was knotted up at 2-2. Carolina lost all three road games at Boston in the first round, and then dropped Games 3 and 4 at Madison Square Garden, squandering a 2-0 series lead. Carolina's road futility has reached historic proportions. The Hurricanes became just the second team in NHL history to have the home team win in the first 11 games of a postseason, along with the 1962 Toronto Maple Leafs.

Boston Bruins' Patrice Bergeron wins Selke Trophy for record 5th time
Boston Bruins center Patrice Bergeron has broken an NHL record by capturing the Selke Trophy for the fifth time in his career as the NHL's best defensive forward.Bergeron, 36, was named on 194 of 195 ballots submitted by the Professional Hockey Writers Association and placed first on 160 of those ballots. Calgary Flames forward Elias Lindholm placed second (21 first-place ballots), and Florida Panthers center Aleksander Barkov (10 first-place votes) was third. The win moved Bergeron past Hall of Fame forward Bob Gainey of the Montreal Canadians, with whom he was tied with four Selke wins. Bergeron previously won the award in 2012, 2014, 2015 and 2017.

Buffalo Sabres to retire goalie Ryan Miller's No. 30 next season
It will be Miller Time once more in Buffalo.The Sabres are honoring their franchise goalie leader in wins and games played by retiring Ryan Miller's No. 30 jersey next season.The team made the announcement by releasing a video Friday that showed Miller being informed of the honor while touring the Sabres' arena with his wife, mother, sister and two children. The announcement coincided with Miller's trip to Buffalo, where he took part in a news conference to discuss being inducted into the Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame later this year. Miller becomes the second Sabres goalie to have his number retired, after Dominik Hasek. Miller wore No. 39 in honor of Hasek in college before switching to No. 30 upon turning pro. His 391 wins, two more than Hasek, rank 14th in the NHL.The Sabres will determine what date they will honor Miller once the NHL schedule is released.

Bill Clement, Al Morganti receive Hockey Hall of Fame media awards
Broadcaster Bill Clement and hockey writer Al Morganti were both named 2022 Hockey Hall of Fame media award recipients on Tuesday. Clement will receive the Foster Hewitt Memorial Award for outstanding contributions as a hockey broadcaster and Morganti will receive the Elmer Ferguson Memorial Award for excellence in hockey journalism. Clement, who played 11 seasons in the NHL and won two Stanley Cup championships with the Philadelphia Flyers, has been a broadcaster for ESPN, NBC, ABC, TNT, CTV, CBC and Rogers Sportsnet. A native of Quebec, he has broadcast four Olympics and more than 20 Stanley Cup Finals. Morganti, who began his career at the Boston Globe, has been a beat writer at the Atlanta Constitution to cover the Calgary Flames and the Philadelphia Inquirer to cover the Flyers. He currently is a co-host on WIP Sports Radio and provides pregame and postgame analysis for NBC Sports in Philadelphia.
