I was a heavy drinker when this thread was first posted.
Just shot past three years sober.
Hard to imagine I'll never touch a drop again - was never the plan. Just having an extended break. Started with 30 days, then 60... now I'm well past 1000. Barely even think about it, which is why I think AA must be such a drag for those who feel they need it - your life still orbiting something you're NOT doing.
I imagine I'll drink again, piss some people off in my life and make a glorious mess of myself. So long as it doesn't become all-consuming as it once did. But then, that's the tricky part - keeping it to occasional and not every day.
