What year is this?

You killed him... didn't you?

Ohhh FUCK, I KNEW it was 1988 when I got up this morning!! The day just had that dreary, crap-bore feel to it.

I thought so. This is twelve monkeys , right?

Roy Orbison
Born Vernon, Texas, April 23, 1936
Died Hendersonville, Tennessee, December 6, 1988

Heck December 1988, I was starting my new life after dumping the deadbeat husband. Best thing I ever did for myself but sad for ROY!

In 1988 I was a junior in High School, and into rap, so I prolly didn't even know ol' Roy had passed.

I was in the second year of a five-year relationship with the most beautiful and dangerously psychotic woman I had ever known up to that time. This and the series of crap temp jobs I was working pretty much account for my shuddering reaction to the words "nineteen eighty-eight" (or nine, or ninety, or ninety-one...)

No! Lefty Wilbury has DIED! WAH!

1988... I was young and poor, wandering around in Italy, drinking up the rich history and culture...

...and wine...

I had no idea Roy Orbison and I shared the same birthday. Hervey Villchez yes, Lee Majors, of course, Shirley Temple Black, absolutely but Roy Orbison?! Had no clue.

In December of 1988 I was a sophomore in high school. I was about to end my miserable run at like, I'd say, last chair clarinet in our suck ass, last place high school band...Our field shows sucked balls. Anyway, I was contemplating trying out for cheerleading, I wanted to be the mascot and looking forward to getting into areobics to finish up my phys. ed. requirments. I had big hair and the claw bangs and I'd also just barely manged to scrape by in Driver's Ed. and get my permit. I was in dreamy love with Mr. Stroud my science teacher and listened to KROQ like God told me to do it. I was all about The Smiths, Depeche Mode, The Lemon Drops, The Pogues, and the Cure.

Oh man, I never thought you were into that kind of music! I thought you always liked rap!

Nope, didn't get into rap, hip-hop or R & B until I was a junior in high school 89-90.

LG's musical preferences in the late 80's were decidedly cooler than her early 90's interests.

They're all over the map now.

It's a big world.

It's an even bigger world now that Roy is gone. Those shades of his spanned a football field, at least. :(
