See. This is why Canada needs to be Invadad

But wouldn't the victimization of the rapist/murderer's wife cause him to suffer the exact same excruciating experience you suffered as a result of the brutalization of you wife? Precise eye for an eye as it were?

Shouldn't the punishment fit the crime?

I've been married for 15 yrs.

No, you're talking about someone who is insane. Sociopaths don't feel remorse or guilt, they find pleasure not in the things we find pleasure in, but rather in domination and power or control. This guy coudln't care less if his wife died beyond it inconveniencing him.

The punishment should simply be to erase him. Better for everyone imo.

Insane and sociopath are not the same thing.

I should know.

Erasing the perpetrator does nothing to serve the victim.

It would be relatively easy for this country to avoid qualms about killing people who commit such crimes simply by taking away the toys they used. Guy can't stop raping people? Whack his peepee. Likes to make people feel helpless? Blind him. Still can't control his impulses? Hobble his ass. Hell, even as a kid I learned if I didn't play nice, stuff got taken away. And at any point the dirtbag with parts missing can still try to become a somewhat productive citizen, as opposed to dead people or those who just get locked away. And even if he doesn't, his care and feeding can't amount to the same cash flow supporting our massive prison system or the guys sitting on death row for twenty years or so...

It serves to minimize the number of further victims created by the same perpetrator.

It isn't about punishment. It's about correction.

One innocent life isn't the price to pay for an innocent life lost. But one who takes an innocent life is to be neutralized to prevent, absolutely and irrevocably, his or her ability to take an innocent life again.

Almost anyone can be reformed. Seriously.

However, it takes time, money, dedication, a therapist or therapists willing to risk their own sanity to go scuba diving in that cestpool mind, and with all of that monitoring (close monitoring) for a relapse. Now is a murderer/rapist worth that effort and continuing risk?

THAT is the question. What if he's a Motzart...but also happens to rape and kill people?

Our society, in general, has dictated that murders only get a certain amount of energy: the energy to try them fairly, and the energy to punish them. Reform is not something we (as a society) choose to spend resources on as we can use the energy elsewhere.

Prison isn't revenge. Neither is execution. Revenge is empty in any case...

@The Saint -

As it happens, I agree with you for the most part. I was taking an antogonistic position to help grind a sharper point on the subject. As I'm sure you noticed, it was getting a little 'lashy' as people confront ugliness with passion.

<--- Crazy hot Canadian. But I think it might be related to the giant blanket I'm wrapped up in.
