Smackdown Is On 2 Weeks Notice

Starship Coyote

Original Gangster!
I'm giving it two weeks to shape up.

I fully realize that professional wrestling often stretches the boundaries of realism in its storylines and matches. I understand that.

As Gagh and I discussed in another thread, the consistent pushing of Rey Mysterio over other more talented and deserving wrestlers by going against all interpretations of reality to keep the belt around his waist has seriously pissed me off for two reasons:

1. It's obvious that Rey is serving as a filler until other wrestlers return from injuries. Angle and Batista immediately come to mind. Both give better and more thrilling matches than smallfry Rey ever does. OTOH, there are still wrestlers on the ticket who...I dunno...actually qualify as heavyweight contenders. Yet they're getting screwed out of the belt. I'd rather see the belt around Booker T or JBL again rather than have what little intelligence I bring to the TV insulted.

1a. In tandem with 1, Rey's matches lately are more about Eddie Guererro than Rey. Fuck, even the fans chant "Eddie" when Speedy Gonzales wrestles. You can't watch a Mysterio match...or a Benoit match incidentally...without seeing the Three Amigos popped somewhere. WWE, Eddie's dead...it's time to lay that shit down and move on.

2. Let's stop and do a headcount...World Heavyweight champion: latino. US heavyweight champion: black. SD GM: black. Strange. I think the only reason the tag champs are white is because no one gives a shit about tagteam wrestling anymore. With the demise of MNM, that division will probably fade away. But Teddy Long and his bookers aren't lining up minorities with the glory. Naww, couldn't be...

I'm sick to death of this constant Rey Mysterio scene: Rey gets the living hell beat out of him for 20 minutes, then suddenly comes back with an oppurtunity for the 619 and the win. Ever notice that wrestlers rarely lay on the ropes like that except in a Rey match? The evil rich white man got vanquished by the poor latino underdog yet again...this shit's getting obvious, and it's obvious who the bookers are catering to...the newest and fastest growing segment of America's population.

So, SD's on two weeks notice with me...either they make an attempt to maintain some sense of reality and quit sucking mexican dick, or I find other things to watch on Friday nights. Hambil seems to think Ghost Whisperer is pretty good...

Why Do They keep Pushin Mark Gaddamned-fucking Henry!?

Oh that's easy...Henry's coming to the end of his 10 year contract with WWE. That's right...10 years. How much has he wrestled in that decade? McMahon's getting his money's worth out of Henry before the contract expires.

There's a strong rumor going around that Henry, who couldn't wait for it to end, now wants to negotiate a new contract. I dunno if that will fly since he's actually injured two of WWE's biggest stars...Batista and Angle.

And Benoit just now. Wait...that might be a story to get benoit his needed off time...

June 13th on Sci-Fi, ECW will be revived as it's own brand.

Not to mention the One Night Stand PPV on June 11.

I love watching ECW. It may be filled with Steel Chairs, Kendo Sticks, and Cookie Trays, but mixed in there is some actual WRESTLING!!!!

As for Benoit:

Chris Benoit will be taking an extended time off to let his body heal. "He's been sore for a long time, and it's probably best for him to get proper rest and away from the grind of the road," says one colleague. "For the good of Chris and really, in the big picture, the company, he needs time off."

In the case of Batista and Angle...he actually accidentally hurt both of them.

Batista got hurt when Kane and Big Show gave him the Double-Choke slam. He aggrivated it to the point where it needed surgery, when he retaliated against them.

Negative, Batman. He originally injured a tricep against Henry, but continued to wrestle for a short time until the problem couldn't be ignored. That's when he dropped the belt.

Ah, my mistake. I just went through the archives. I could have sworn he had an injury related to the double-chokeslam he received from Kane and Big Show.

Smackdown was good this week. Really good Rey/JBL match in the main event. Rey is one of the top five wrestlers in the company at the moment and a pleasure to watch every week.

What was good about it? It was 20 minutes of JBL beating the shit out of Rey, then Rey bouncing back for the win. That's it. That's all Rey can do anymore. What the fuck do people see in that dreck?

And what was this shit about the ref making a call based on something he didn't even see?

Once again, it's the booking that is at fault, not Rey. I couldn't give a shit if the guy was an Arab, Mexican, Japanese, Black, White, Michael Jackson or otherwise, so long as he knows how to wrestle, work his arse off and build a match, he deserves a strap.

All the work Rey has done in the last 3-4 years proves that, now they've done the right thing and given him the strap, they're fucking with his methods, and booking him in shitty matches with shitty workers, just like they did to Eddie.

I beg to differ, because he is a better worker than a large majority of the current roster, and fully deserves his chance.

That's not saying much considering half the roster for the heavyweights is either out injured or jumping ship to ECW (in Angle's case).

They weren't when he was handed the strap at at WrestleMania.
Batista was...that's what started the ball rolling. Eddie was dead, and will be for quite some time.

Angle didn't have the belt taken off of him...he lost it because of shithouse booking on Long's part. It should have been Angle vs. Orton, but for some reason Rey got shoved back in the mix.

And don't say it's because Rey is so popular. Rey is riding the memory of Eddie Guererro...a real champion. Whose name are the fans chanting when Rey's wrestling?
