Being a member of a torrent site isn't illegal, sharing files isn't illegal. Sharing copyrighted material is illegal.

So for all the blustering the staff did, the membership in the database Borgs wanted to use would have absolutely no legal worries.

Having said that, I don't support him using the WF database for TF. I firmly believe you need to grow your own membership.

I always wondered why so many WFers acting like pussy soccer moms when Torrentforge or whatever was mentioned. "oooooh, it's illegal, mommy. Borgs wants to do bad things and pop my innocent WF cherry, mommy."

He got banned once for what, linking to a torrent? Or was that Parallaxis?

There are plenty of things which I dislike about the general WF mentality, but nothing makes me feel more contempt to these bandwidth wasting noobs than when they shit their pants at the mention of naughty Internets.

It was probably more vindication for him than anything else. You can't force people to post at your place.

This is just it. I'd love to know exactly how Borgs' complaint to vBulletin was worded. I mean, if he was claiming they were running the board using stolen intellectual property, then he was telling the truth. They stole the database from him, pure and simple. Nick and Elwood should just be grateful that Borgs didn't decide to go to the cops either, particularly given Elwood and Nick's chosen career paths.

ahhhhhhhhhh but see they didn't actually steal it.

A threat was made and Borgs caved in and sold. So it is all legit becasue I doubt VB is going to accept anything as evidence since it would be so easy to fake it.

In my eyes, a threat to do something unethical holds the same amount of accountability as actually doing something unethical.

Just because Nick acknowledges that his actions might have been unethical, does not let him off the hook for participating in the attempted theft.

In my opinion, if you continue to post at Wordforge knowing what transpired, you *condone* what transpired.

IMO, of course.
