Pretty much exactly the reason even the global mods at my site don't have the power to delete anything permanently or ban users. We have 3 admins. 2 of which post regularly. Nobody else is given that kind of power. I don't know much about ootikof, but it seems foolish to give moderators the power to do any real damage. This must have been the issue you alluded to earlier, Gear. I hope it works out.
I have one admin who has damn near as many buttons as I do, he touches nothing unless he absolutely has to. I have had to give most of the mods the option to change user names and other various functions due to a certain individual who had been plaguing my site since day one. I trust everyone of my staff. They are all rather relaxed individuals so I don't worry that they will go on a rampage deleting everything. Regardless it's always good to make a nightly back up because you never know what could happen.

Well, I have this new idea. Actually had a new idea on how the power of that group ought to be structured. Before I enacted any policy, I took into consideration what might happen. So none of what's going on is a huge surprise considering what people were allowed to do. I don't want to be too specific because (a. I suspect this isn't very interesting for TK and (b. At least one of the people responsible for the total eradication of all post on that board is probably reading this thread. Suffice to say nothing they did is a big surprise. Much of what they will do next is anticipated. I'm way out ahead here and quite comfortable with the state of things there. Time will tell if I'm a petty dictator or a visionary.
My purpose there is the _gradual_ strengthening and _long term_ survival of that group. Seems like the easiest way to do that for now is to allow people to expose their own weaknesses. And one of the most telling way to do that is to give people enough power to either use or abuse. Nothing brings nobility to the light faster. Unfortunately, petty squabbling and cruelty usually show up first. Which, of course I would want to know about if I was working on building something to last. Why I just found out about at least three philosophical enemies I didn't even know I had. No doubt about it now. How about that for value? I'll take that to the bank.
They're going to be just fine. Even if they don't know it yet. Their good and benevolent buddy gear is standing solidly at the helm.

Certainly not as a matter of policy or creed. That's patently ridiculous. I would never have the gall to make such a claim. But I understand why you would suggest that I want to be seen as honest and upfront. It's the initial part of the process by which you would demonize me to justify your actions. First you get me to take offense at the suggestion that I might not be honest and then you present evidence you think you can spin to the point of convicting me for being dishonest.

I agree this was a most entertaining bonfire of the vanities. There is no joy in Foamville; Mighty Ootikof has struck out! What's left of them are sequestered in the Cosmic Outpost, and for some reason they won't let me in :smfangel: . I'm pretty sure Gear is off their Xmas card list, and any trolls with wrestler names need not apply LMAO.

A dear friend of mine once made me an admin for...oh...let's say a few hours. Another dear friend continued some of the functions, sort of a "super-mod" for awhile. I had my subtle fun, but the board did not crash, and the only ones who were "punished" deserved it richly. Given my personality, lifestyle, experience and ethical code, I felt qualified to judge. And TK is still here, *I* am still here, even that account (although it's now a normal one) is still here.
I don't know if my benefactors had the same motivation as 'Gear (I HIGHLY doubt it, in fact), but it was/is an interesting experiment. Of course, those IP's may leak someday, now that it's years old it probably doesn't matter anymore. The PM's have a slightly longer life, but I think most of the parties are either disappeared, no longer interesting, or divorced/castrated by now. You never know who might have lasting power and I had only a short time to harvest what I wanted to harvest.
I look forward to more such experiments.

Nah it's a goner. They all went to their own new php and global mod'd themselves. Now they hang out agreeing with each other. Must be fun.
I sent the back up I made to the guy who owned the board and for some strange reason he wasn't able to install it. Coincidentally he's now a global at the new place. What a surprise.

The real funny thing is, somebody on the "other side" ratted them out beforehand that something big and destructive was gonna happen. Backups were made and ready when they pulled their stunt, and the original plan was to let them gloat for a week or so then replace it as if nothing had happened. But after the fact the general consensus became one of apathy (gear's favorite word lol) and everyone agreed to say fuck it, let them wallow in their destruction. Especially since it became apparent that some of the conspirators were expecting there to be a backup, thereby rendering their vandalism harmless.
Either way, the destruction of the knights of the foam table is a story that will become legend in any halls where major drinking occurs, as trolls and flamers revel in past glories and exaggerated feats of internet heroism. Who knows, if 2012 brings about the end of civilization and the only thing left is bits of the foam knight tale, maybe it'll become an epic history or something. It could happen, look at Beowulf. Drunken idiot brags about all the sea monsters he's killed and hacks up an alligator, suddenly he's the darling of community college lit professors the world over...
