From what I know, they did some kind of modification to the rep system, and it ended up checking back over every post ever made on the board.

That caused a bandwidth spike, which the hosts were not happy about. Now everybody's waiting about for Elwood to come and wrangle with the hosts.

Clearly this is Packard's fault.
 
^Eh, not quite. The modification results in a search for rep comments on posts where there was no rep. This is a correctable error, if CPU intensive. The problem was that it had to happen to each post on a page at once. Which means that the more people were online, the exponentially greater the number of db accesses and computation. When the server load hit 50, we were automatically suspended.

EDIT: to FBI. Of course it was Packard's fault.

And since most WorForgers have no life, Labor Day was a very poor choice.
