Star Trek Picard season 3

Unlike Lord Garth over at TrekBBS (remember that kid? And yeah, I read some stuff over there) I'm not going to declare s3 of Picard the best season of Star Trek ever, especially based on one episode. He must have brain damage or something because we've all seen the past few seasons and know how it tends to fall apart after... I dunno. 3 episodes? 5? Whatever. Plus he claims STD is his favorite show.

He seemingly loved every episode of season 1 and 2 and would quote reply anyone who disliked them to the point of insanity. It was pretty weird! One of the mods let rip on him in QSF one time, something like "we used to be friends and I don't recognise the person you are now!" and it was pretty compelling, then somebody closed the thread.

Yak, yak, yak. 44 minutes of talking one minute of action, blurry action at that. I was hoping the quality wouldn't take an immediate nosedive after the first episode, but it wouldn't be Picard if it didn't.

I was really hoping they wouldn't go with for the obvious, but... they went for the obvious. Why does the kid have the same accent as a guy he never even met before, let alone grew up listening to? So that the Lowest Common Denominator figures out he's Picard's son. Why would you want the audience to figure it out from such an on-the-nose gimmick, instead of dedicating a beat or two to the Titan-A's doctor pulling Picard aside while the camera remains on Riker and Seven, or Riker and Shaw, or Seven and Shaw, after which we see a shaken and befuddled Picard and get to infer what his problem is until the scene where he confirms it? Because Fuck You, That's Why.

I'll admit that the thing where Squiggy From LaVerne And Shirley flings a ship at another ship... that was novel. I'm pretty sure that's never been done before -- or, if it has, that's the first time I've ever seen it done.

More Raffi-and-drugs. Although, I'll give that this much credit: It's a nice callback to the episode "The Game."

The Titan-A... pffft. It's just a mashup between the Strange New Worlds Enterprise and the TMP refit, but with (more) blue neon on the engines and absurdly fucking huge impulse engines for absolutely no reason except to up its "flying casino billboard" look.

THERE IS NO LOGICAL REASON FOR A TV SHOW TO BE SO DARK THAT YOU CAN BARELY SEE IT ON THE SCREENsd;lfkdf
I saw it just fine on my tiny phone screen, old man. Turn up your screen brightness! Sure the scene with the big Worf reveal was dark but that was done on purpose to keep us in the dark about his identity for as long as possible.

I liked that Shaw seems to becoming a bro. Surprised he didn't say "like Wrath of Khan!" when Picard ordered them into the nebula at the end.

Raffi, in a crowded place on a shady planet full of gangsters: I'M STARFLEET INTELLIGENCE. I'M UNDERCOVER. DON'T TELL ANYONE. I WORK FOR STARFLEET INTELLIGENCE, IT'S A BIG SECRET.

Didn't the trailer have Worf saying he took a vow of non-violence but here he is chopping off heads.

I read an article somewhere that said Worf now prefers non violence, but will be violent when he needs to be.

Yeah, seems like they're going for the "Mr. Miyagi" / "Don't fuck with an old warrior; he doesn't want to fight, but if you make him fight, best be right with your maker." kind of vibe.

What is missing form Picard is the humor and fun.
Maybe when they do a Firefly revival series. Come on, we all know they're gonna. Night Court is back on tv, with this season of Picard, Star Trek: The Next Generation is back on tv. Only a matter of time before Firefly is back.

Ehh, this one had a hard time holding my attention. On one hand the lighting and color saturation were annoying, but I guess the latter has been corrected at least. The Picard/Beverly/Son thing is kinda dumb and doesn't make any sort of character sense, at least yet. Still liking Riker. In fact I like him better in his Picard appearances than I ever did in TNG. Vadic is... okay? I guess?

I'm not really one to have a short attention span as 2001 and TMP are probably my favorite genre movies, but the glacial pacing of this series has always gotten on my nerves. Still hoping this season turns out to be fairly decent, but the way the first two seasons took weird detours along the way doesn't really fill one with confidence.

It looks like Vadic isn't the main villain and she's just a weird bounty hunter working for someone...

Probably Lore lol.

At least they addressed why the kid speaks in Received Pronunciation English. Are those cunts reading this board? *looks under the couch cushions for hidden microphones*

Also: It was a nice change of pace from Seasons 1 and 2 to see a Strong Female POC be wrong about something, viz the Changeling not suffering from withdrawal but, rather, needing to regenerate. They'd have never shown a woman being wrong about anything in Seasons 1 or 2. So that was a refreshing change of pace there.
