Stargate Universe

I want to smell dark matter
Is this any good? I've never watched much of Stargate before, but it looks okay fro the ads. I've heard it tries to be like BSG and I like BSG, so that could be a good thing. And Robert Carylyle is a good actor. SO IS IT GOOD?

SPOILER FREE OPINION:

It didn't quite live up to my expectations but it didn't suck either. I hated some of the characters right away, and thought some of them were great right away. Stargate always has really annoying unrealistic characters, and a few really interesting well acted characters (so I wasn't surprised when I hated two of them).

I didn't really care for Carlyle's character.. I think he's supposed to be mysterious, but I just found him annoying. And David Blue's character "Eli" has the potential to be really bad, hopefully he won't be.

I liked the gritty look of the show, and the ship is 10 times more awesome than any other Stargate ship so far.

Elyse Levesque as Chloe Armstrong: She's pretty, has gotten a lot of bad comments on some other sites I visit. I didn't mind her character at all, and think she could be good. She was prominent in the premiere, but not in it enough to know if she will be annoying or awesome.

Alaina Huffman as Tamara Johansen: She's the medic, but not a doctor. I don't think there are any full on doctors aboard the ship, so she's the medical expert. Kinda hot.

Ming-Na as Camile Wray: Don't know what her character is. So far I think she may turn out to be a civilian leader on the ship.

There were some other unnamed girls in the premiere (well, if they were named they're not listed on wikipedia). Some of them were cute, maybe they'll make it into the main cast.

Too lazy to transfer the pix over to photobucket, hope I can hotlink. IN THE ORDER I MENTIONED THEM ABOVE.

You already know what Ming-Na looks like. WHERE'S CHIEF O'BRIEN?

So, did you watch it? I bet you guys like Dr Rush.. seems like everyone on the internet liked him but me.

Yes, I watched it. As it was the first time I've watched a Stargate show I'm not sure if they did the best job introducing the universe. For example, do the general public know about Stargates and aliens and starships? Eli seemed surprised to be beamed up and on a spaceship, but not all THAT surprised. And who were the aliens attacking the planet that blew up?

The editing in the first episode was TERRIBLE. The flashbacks were hugely confusing at times and it wasn't clear why they couldn't have just told the story in a linear way. For example they showed Eli on a spaceship for the first time, then they showed him walking into some room and saying "hey, we're on a spaceship!" which was confusing becaue he already knew that...then I realised this was the non-flashback segment again. It was annoying.

I did get a bit bored in the middle but it picked up by the end. I did like the drama with the guy sacrificing himself and the clash between Rush and the commander at the end. It did seem to pick up a lot at the end so hopefully the next one will be better.

None of the characters grabbed me, really. Eli looked like a fatter version of Declan from Neighbours. Chloe was quite cute. She was alright. The blond you posted looked better in the show. But she didn't do much.

It did seem to be trying quite hard to be like BSG and not quite making it. But it wasn't any worse than Flashforward.

The second episode was much better, I thought, in terms of pace and lack of confusion. I liked that it was left ambiguous if the swirling cloud things were aliens or just hallucinations (though since we saw one recovering water I would guess aliens.) Chloe is quite good looking. What happened to the two people who went through the gate to another planet? They weren't mentioned again. And why did a shuttle launch at the end?

Their fate was left unknown, and is exactly the kind of dangling plot threads that Stargate loves to do follow up episodes on; expect one later on in the season. Maybe the shuttle thing was an alien probe or something. It'll probably be mentioned in the next episode.

She's a member of the IOA(International Oversight Agency). She was featured in an episode of Stargate Atlantis where she tried to steal Woolsey's job as leader of the Atlantis expedition.

According to Wikipedia she's going to be the first ever gay Stargate character. Her girlfriend, or wife OR WHATEVER is back on earth.

Yes, I'm sure a lot of lezbos say "to hell with great boobs! I want my chests full of hair! Thick, masculine, HAIR!"

Then they rip their clothes off and start rubbing rogaine all over their nipples.
