Stranger Things (Netflix)

I just googled Robin and what the hell - Uma Thurman is her Mum ?

and yeah Ethan Hawke is her Dad <shrug> ...

I have learned today.

Maya Hawke is good for googling.

It seems like a big retcon for it now to have been One who shaped the Upside Down. The Mind Flayer seems to have just been some naturally occurring living cloud thing before One influenced it?

I thought for sure that Vicki was played by Maya Hawke, but it is Amybeth McNulty.

Argyle (Surfer Pizza Guy) became my favorite character.

I know. I thought Maya was playing both characters.

That would be quite masturbatory considering they have the hots for each other!

I know.
It was a wierd "Parent Trap" Hayley Mills moment in my head

*insert Old Lady From Titanic here*

Millie Bobby Brown is now a grandmother but it's finally coming out.

Stranger Things season 5: So Very Tired - Haven't finished the second episode yet because they're so long. It's not that ti's bad, or anything: it's still a very well made tv show. But why are they still doing the same shit they've been doing for five seasons? It's the final season, shouldn't the characters have evolved a bit by now (apart from the obvious thing where you have a 15 year old who looks 25.) Why are they STILL dealing with school bullies? Why are Steve and Jonathan STILL competiing over Nancy (I mean, she's hot, but grow up, lads!)

I barely remembered Holly existed before, wasn't she like a baby last season? And now she's looks about 12 but I think is meant to be younger? I guess they needed another kid to be targetted by the monsters...even though they've done that loads of times already.

Watched half of first episode before concluding I... don't really care anymore? Hmmm. I liked the show well enough, particularly the first couple of seasons. Nearly 4 years between seasons certainly hasn't helped.

I'll try and finish the first episode at least.

They're all 40 now and they still won't let the 2 gay boys get together and BOO SCARY MONSTER and David won't leave Millie alone and as you can tell I stopped watching a long time ago

Why are they STILL dealing with school bullies?
Haha yeah, I thought as much in the bit of the first episode I watched when those dweeby bullies were giving Dustin (who has aged out far too much for my liking) a hard time over Hellfire. I believe these were the same ones that 11 took to with her telekinesis in S1? Anyway, these lads are demon / monster-slaying veterans by now.

Third and fourth episode was better and didn't drag as much despite the runtimes. I enjoyed the Home Alone bit with the monster (never learned its name) and Erica being a psycho. Max is finally back as a coma ghost. Fourth episode had a lot of action and a strong ending. Only problem is that Noah Schnapp is by far the worst of the "kid" actors and he's now the most important character...

(I was going to say that about Schnapp on TrekBBS but predicted I'd get a lot of "HOW DARE YOU BE NASTY ABOUT SOMEONE'S ACTING" responses so didn't bother.)

Do you think people take baths with blindfolds now, trying to find their friends, or is that just me?

I forgot to post about the three lagest episodes. Not much to say. Lots of stopping to have important conversations in life or death situations. LOTS of bits where they use metaphors to explain things that don't really need to be explained by metaphors and the metaphors don't work anyway. Sad to say that Millie Bobby Brown has really regressed as an actor: I'm sure she was better in earlier seasons. Then again I blame the writers a bit for hardly ever letting her interact with the other "kids", she's just stuck with Hop and her annoying sister all the time now. Murray should have died long ago. Coming out scene was weird as it invovled people Will hardly knew and possibly wouldn't have given a fuck. Holly's actress is good for an actual kid and the scene with the other kids bullying her and beating her up was the only scene that actually felt a bit scary. The monsters just kill nameless soldiers now (who I guess are all evil so who cares?) Anyway, one more episode to go, will see it through to the bitter end!

Viewers generally had problems with how Will's coming out scene was handled. The episode was given a low rating on IMDb as a result.

But now homophobic trolls have picked that up and are declaring all over SM that it's a sign of "a cultural shift" and that nobody wants gay storylines at all in scifi/fantasy.

Now fans are banning together to fight this political attack by giving the episode higher rankings, to take away the argument from them.

I hate social media. And I'm kinda glad I didn't stay with this show and only know this stuff second-hand, because I feel like I would have lost my shit but good if I was still heavily invested in the show...

Well,
I was going to go to sleep early tonight
But then I saw on here that ST has new episodes, so I opened Netflix,
but then I saw The Closer and decided to start watching that instead
and then I remembered I wanted to send an email thanking someone for the gift they sent (don't worry, I send cards also)
And then I saw an email about a sound bath
and now I'm listening to that instead.
Strange.
Things.
Indeed.
