Stranger Things (Netflix)

Viewers generally had problems with how Will's coming out scene was handled. The episode was given a low rating on IMDb as a result.

But now homophobic trolls have picked that up and are declaring all over SM that it's a sign of "a cultural shift" and that nobody wants gay storylines at all in scifi/fantasy.

Now fans are banning together to fight this political attack by giving the episode higher rankings, to take away the argument from them.

I hate social media. And I'm kinda glad I didn't stay with this show and only know this stuff second-hand, because I feel like I would have lost my shit but good if I was still heavily invested in the show...
Tumblr hated it because they didn't have Mike (who has always been straight) suddenly declare his love for Will and start making out with him in front of everyone. I thought it was a bit silly how there were 27 people there, including people Will's never talked to before. And of course the MAGA scum just hate it because they hate gays. We can never honestly discuss tv anymore!

I didn't know that Lily Allen was married to David Harbor. (tho I probably said that 4 years ago too)
Didn't last long.

Finale was good. Definitely better than the rest of the season. It benefitted from them not having stop and explain things every five minutes or pause the action so characters could have annoying arguments. It was mostly just about bringing an end to everything and giving the characters closure. I liked that it ended with them graduating school and playing D&D again, I think this season has lacked scenes of the characters just doing real life stuff as it's been so plot-heavy. Showing flashbacks to the first season really did make it feel like a lifetime ago.

Linda Hamilton's character was completely pointless though lol.

I was unable to make it past the halfway mark in the first episode but still curious about the finale. So, I had Grok AI put together a comprehensive spoiler overview of everything between S01 - S07 to prepare me for the final episode.

Starting on a positive: the young girl playing Holly was a great wee actress.

As for the rest:

- First off, if you want to ape Return of the King's ending, be as good as Return of the King. You were closer to Battle of the Five Armies territory here.

- Steve died. Oh wait, he didn't! Reminded me of Rise of Skywalker's equally toothless Chewbacca fake-out.

- What the actual fuck happened to the Upside Down - we're on the planet of the piss filter and the Mindflayer is a giant, meaty crab thingy? And he went down like a punk. They were playing that final boss in story mode.

- The actor playing Will isn't that good.

- And unfortunately, I have to say the same for Millie Brown.

- Eleven's death. From a narrative standpoint, I guess I see what they were going for. But it needed reworking. It's too much of a cake and eat it outcome.

Overall, not without its moments, and certainly not a GoT-level disaster (not that I can fully judge). When I think back to the charm of the first couple of seasons, and then back to where it ended up, I can only wish of future showrunners who happen upon a quality product and success to begin devising their exit strategy sooner. This went one - maybe two seasons more than it needed.

It went on too long and wasn't the same show in the end. If you look at season one compared to now it went from actual (PG13, granteD) horror series to a big CGI super hero smashfest. They originally intended it to be an anthology series but I'm guessing Netflix demanded to bring back the original cast because they were so popular (and, to be fair, they were all great kid actors.)

I don't know what happened to Millie but supposedly she was being bullied by David Harbour all season so maybe that hurt her acting...
