Sunday's game could be Eli Manning's last as a Giant.

Eli Manning to start as Giants rule out Daniel Jones

Quarterback Eli Manning will start for the New York Giants against the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football, the team announced Saturday as the Giants (2-10) try to snap an eight-game skid. Rookie quarterback Daniel Jones, who supplanted Manning as the Giants' starter after two games, was officially ruled out Saturday due to a high ankle sprain. Engram, who has missed three games over four weeks, was a limited participant in practice this week but was deemed "ready to go. He leads the team with 44 receptions and has 467 yards and three touchdown grabs in eight games.

Also ruled out for the Giants were tight ends Evan Engram (foot) and Rhett Ellison (concussion), along with cornerback Corey Ballentine (concussion).

Manning, the two-time Super Bowl MVP, threw a pair of TD passes to Darius Slayton in his first game since Week 2. Filling in for injured rookie Daniel Jones, Manning was 15 of 30 for 203 yards. But he couldn't prevent New York (2-11) from losing its ninth straight game, tying a franchise record set in 1976, when the team opened 0-9. Manning, who turns 39 next month, is a free agent after the season. It's uncertain when Jones will return, so it's possible Manning could make at least one more start at home.

Eli Manning to start again as Daniel Jones deals with ankle sprain

New York Giants rookie quarterback Daniel Jones will not play Sunday against the Miami Dolphins, meaning Eli Manning will take his place and make at least one more home start. Jones returned to practice this week in a limited capacity, but needs more time with the high ankle sprain he suffered two weeks ago in a loss to the Green Bay Packers. With Manning on the final year of his contract and admittedly unsure about his future, this could be his final home start with the Giants. He was the team's starter for the better part of 15 seasons, and won a pair of Super Bowl MVPs during that time. The Giants (2-11) are looking to snap a nine-game skid on Sunday.

Jones has started 10 games during his rookie season. The Giants are 2-8 in those contests. He has flashed while completing 61.6% of his passes with 18 touchdown passes and 11 interceptions.

If this was Eli Manning's final start at home in a career that saw the New York Giants win two Super Bowls, it was one that sent chills down the spine. And a choked-back tear for the face of the franchise for the past 16 years. The two-time Super Bowl MVP threw two touchdowns and New York snapped a franchise record-tying nine-game losing streak with a 36-20 victory over the Miami Dolphins on Sunday. This game was all about the 38-year-old, who is in the final year of his contract. He got a standing ovation from fans before the opening offensive series and another one when coach Pat Shurmur pulled him with less than two minutes to go to put in backup Alex Tanney with the outcome set.

Two titles, 210 straight starts, one Eli: How Manning conquered New York
Smith drafted Manning, Accorsi drafted Phillip Rivers, and then the Giants shipped Rivers and three picks west for their guy. Eli was blitzed by media and fans early in his career for his dazed, sleepy-eyed expressions and hangdog-ish body language, for not showing Peyton-like fire when things went awry.

Eli Manning hasn't made retirement decision, but doesn't want to be a backup
ElI Manning is contemplating retirement. If he does return, it almost certainly will not be with the New York Giants. Manning, who turns 39 on Friday, has spent all 16 of his professional seasons with the team that traded for him during the 2004 NFL draft. But he isn't interested in being Daniel Jones backup next season.Retirement is a much more realistic possibility for Manning after 236 career games and two Super Bowl MVPs. He admitted that he needs to determine how much quality football he still has left in his body. Manning started four games and threw six touchdown passes and five interceptions this season.

ElI Manning retires

Manning, 39, steps away holding almost every passing record in team history and a pair of Super Bowl rings. His victories over the New England Patriots after the 2007 and '11 seasons are the most iconic moments from a legendary career. They will put him in the conversation for the Hall of Fame in five years, when he's eligible

Manning was set to become a free agent this offseason. He has made more than $250 million from his football contracts, the most in NFL history. His father, Archie, had long said he never thought Eli would play for another team. He will not, despite taking a month after the conclusion of the season to make his final decision. Manning was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2004 NFL draft by the San Diego Chargers. But he didn't want to play in San Diego and was quickly traded to the Giants. The Chargers ended up with Phillip Rivers and the Pittsburgh Steelers landed Ben Roethlisberger in the legendary '04 QB class. Manning is the first of the three to call it a career. Manning is seventh in NFL history with 57,023 passing yards, 366 touchdown passes and 4,895 completions. He finished with a 117-117 record as a starter in the regular season.

And then there were those two magical playoff runs that led to the two Super Bowl victories and MVPs. Those are part of the indelible mark Manning left on the game. He was the architect of two of the biggest upsets in Super Bowl history. Manning went 8-4 in his playoff career, with five of those wins coming on the road. When the Giants beat Brady and the Patriots in Super Bowl XLII, it ruined New England's chance at an undefeated season in 2007. Manning went 69-50 as the starter in his first eight seasons. It went downhill from there. The Giants went 48-67 with Manning as the starter over his final eight seasons.

Giants' Eli Manning retires after 16 seasons, 2 Super Bowls

Eli Manning bade farewell to the NFL much the same way he was able to operate throughout his 16-year career. His way. Manning, 39, wasn't forced into retirement or unable to play physically. Instead, during his retirement news conference Friday, he took pride in being able to step away having played for only one franchise -- the New York Giants. Manning finished with a 117-117 career regular-season record. He guided two legendary playoff runs, owns just about every franchise passing record, and ranks among the NFL's top seven in touchdown passes (366) and passing yards (57,023). He remains open to returning to the Giants in some kind of non-playing/non-coaching role, which Mara mentioned as a possibility in recent weeks. Manning called the Giants the "greatest organization in the NFL in how they treat players, coaches and personnel."
