The banhammer falls on WF

Cause I can afford it. To give you an example: Today I just cashed a check from the government for $403,000, for work my company's done at the new VA cemetery in Palm Beach. And that's only the first payment. I'm reasonably sure that I can outbid anyone else who'd want wordforge, which is why the fact that I was frozen out of the bidding the first time around amuses me.

I have a feeling that, even for that high an amount, Elwood wouldn't sell to me though. partly because he wouldn't actually believe I can pay that much.

So be it.

I am selling Starscape BBS for a scant $500.
I'm kidding, but I was tempted there for a second. ;)

Wow, that is indeed fascinating. You know, anytime you need lackeys, I'm around. But I'd rather be the Priest you consult to see if what you're doing is morally right. A few hundred thousand a year would be more than enough, and I could always get God to understand the "necessary actions" you would have to take each week. :chaching: I mean... :who?me?:

A site like Wordforge does not generate any revenue. So why dump so much cash acquiring it. It's a liability all around.

You're right, it is a liability.

Do I think anyone will take my offer seriously? No.

So maybe I'll just drop my price, to make it more realistic.

$750. Not even a full week's paycheck. Is that realistic enough?

How much of that goes to the bottom line? Certainly you have payroll and administrative expenses?

The reason Elwood would dissolve the board is quite simple, really. There are untold amounts of personal information about himself (and other Wordforgers)stored in the database, in the form of PM's and email to his Wordforge account. Given his current paranoia about protecting himself from RL harm, and in light of his recent blunder in communicating personal info to CheekyMonkey, he isn't about to give WF to anyone other than his most trusted lieutenants.

Wait a second. First you claimed you cashed a check for $403,000 as partial payment for one job, now you claim $750 is "not even a full week's paycheck". Is it half?, if so, your numbers all make no sense.

Ohhh, yes, the costs are considerable. Profit-wise, I only cleared about a quarter of it.

Still over $100K, though.

I get a paycheck for myself.

The payments to the business, though, go in an operating account.

We have an operating account, a payroll account, and my personal account.

I'm not full owner, my whole family runs this business, so that isn't total profit for me, it's divvied up with my family.

There are exactly two people who can buy wordforge. Nick and Tamar.

Elwood will shut it down before handing it to anyone else.

"Le Wordforge, c'est moi." :gagh:

got it.

You could buy wordforge for your whole family then!!

I'm sure they'd all love it :P

Actually, I do plan to have a "forum" of sorts on our company website when it goes up in a few weeks, but it'll be rudimentary at best, meant only for customers to ask questions regarding the plants they've purchased.

Must be great to work together as a family and divide the profits. Most families don't understand the need for an aggressive worker (as you seem to be) spending an inordinate amount of energy devoted to work, however, since it is a family business you can get away with it.

I dunno how I've really displayed I'm any harder a worker than either of my parents. We just simply have different areas we excel in. My father knows the plants, and is good with PR. My mother is the only one among us who can keep the books straight. And I'm a natural at marketing.

If any one of us were to up and quit, the business would be hurting. We all work hard, I'm no more or less essential than the rest.

Can it really be considered selling if it's not truly auctioned off? Isn't it merely passing it down to the inheritor?

because, T'Bonz, what good is opening your own board if only a fraction of the people follow you?

Then that means that the majority there are satisfied with how the board is run. Again, why should El have to sell it?

Tyrant, where did you find that? That shouldn't be a concern, whoever got in to read the PMs can also delete that stuff from the DB.
