As they got closer to the planet a warning went off on the console.
Jan tapped a few buttons, and another ship appeared in a holographic display.
"Shit!" She said worriedly.
"Freind of yours?"
"Hardly, that's a siphoner, they come from other systems and drain gas giants of their hydrogen."
"One ship? Its a big planet, how bad could it be?"

"once the ship is full it will use the fuel to replicate ten more siphoners, and then they will do the same, within a few days uranus will have withered away to nothing, and the impact on gravity will massively disrupt this entire system."
"So its just got here?"

"Some, but to take down that ship we'd need three times as much, we'll have to ram it."

"So if we assume that we will win this battle, and after it's over we go back in time an hour and reappear ten feet to the left of this ship"
They both looked out the left window of the ship and saw another version of them waving back at them.
"Now they just need to do the same thing."
"hold on, I'm getting a call from them" Jan said, slipping on a headset.
"They say the battle isn't for another twenty minutes and do you want a 3some first?"
"Sure why not, if this goes wrong I may never get another chance."
"OK, they are sending the other Bob over."

"I'm kidding, the other me is on her way.
A short time later when Jan2 was back on her ship, and a third ship had appeared they were ready to coordinate their attack.

And then even though the fact that the ships from the future kind of proved they had won the battle, the first shot was fired by the Siphoner ship carrying the original Bob and Jan, as their ship exploded around them, the other two versions vanished from the timeline.
The siphoner continued its attack on the gas giant, eventually consuming it, and sending its moons spiralling off through the solar system, where eventually it crashed into and destroyed the earth.
