Any rough guesses on what it may be or include?
Obviously a topic like this is just a prediction thread and there is no real way to know, but what do you think the next major historical moment will be and in what timeframe? I'm talking major historical events like 9/11, The War in Iraq, ect. Major stuff.
The current war against terrorism is not really a war either. It's a campaign. By looking at all of human history it would be foolish to say that WW3 will never happen. Discussion of the players in that, possibly including China, Russia and Iran against the West and a possible time frame for further conflict and the current nuclear crisis we're having with countries like Iran and N.Koreaare also welcome.
All blatant specualtion of course, aliens making first contact could be the next major historical event for all we know.

My guess would be that within a decade of total troop recall from Iraq, the US will wage a war against Iran. What the news doesn't tell you is that the US is building military outposts, staging areas, and training facilites in Iraq and Kuwait. Number one, is Camp Buehring. That's where I was stationed. It will become the US main desert tranining facility. Now, why would we need that? Also, Bush and the Neocons need to have constant war against something. This political thought goes back from Nazis, to Communism, drug trafficing, and now they've got muslim extremists (or the blanket terrorist group Al Qaeda).
Or, they'll concentrate on the one that got away, North Korea. But, ever since Vietnam, the US command has feared conflict in Asia. Mainly because attacking N. Korea would wake the sleeping giant that is the People's Republic of China. We're just not prepared to fight China on their turf. It would have to be a war of attrition. Or, a nuclear war. But, we'd definitely have to strike first.
Or, they'll concentrate on the one that got away, North Korea. But, ever since Vietnam, the US command has feared conflict in Asia. Mainly because attacking N. Korea would wake the sleeping giant that is the People's Republic of China. We're just not prepared to fight China on their turf. It would have to be a war of attrition. Or, a nuclear war. But, we'd definitely have to strike first.

Hambil is right that our nation will decline, not because of political policy but because of a false sense of entitlement and arrogance. This is not really an event though, just something that will be recorded historically as the beginning of the end.
I'd hazard a guess we'll see some major destructive event directed against organized western religions, especially Catholic/Apostolic style faiths, but all Judeo-Christian systems will take a hit. it won't come from Muslims, though.
We'll see a major collapse of the infrastructure supported by oil interests in the next fifty years, and probably that will be the point at which America ceases its role as the world's pre-eminent superpower and world policeman.
There will be a major secession movement in this country (USA) within the next several decades. Bigger than Quebec, not quite as large as the splintering of the Soviet Union, but a map-changing event nonetheless.
Someone, not necessarily the US, will detonate a nuclear weapon in an aggressive fashion, and the resultant destruction will cause a worldwide push toward non-proliferation and peace.
There will be a catastrophic event in the ring of fire similar to the Tsunami disaster.
That blonde chick from Aruba will join Jimmy Hoffa and DB Cooper on the list of People We Wish The FBI Would Stop Trying To Find, Already.
