The Search for Bin Ladins Body

Unluckiest Charm in the Box
Well this didn't take long

Civilian Divers are now under way to recover the body of Osama Bin Ladin. Many people have doubts about his execution ever taking place, and want to know the truth behind the whole story...with evidence!

Video - Breaking News Videos from CNN.com

Why do I have the feeling that this is something that will not end well! :mmph:

From my coastie days I'll say that there is very little chance of body recovery, even if the navy kept an accurate lat/lon of where they dumped it.

People don't realize how BIG the ocean is, especially when you view it as a 3d environment. In my mis-spent youth I used to try to find 300' long submarines in that same medium, and it was EXTREMELY difficult. Finding an organic lump of meat in the sea, especially if they weighted the bag and put a couple of flood holes in it (for the critters to get in), is going to be pretty much impossible.

In addition, I remember recovering a corpse up in the Bearing Sea after only 4 days in the water, he was a "floater". The slime-eels had gotten into the body and it was only vaguely recognizable as human. In warmer water, the bacteria are more active than in the cold. If they dumped the body in the Indian Ocean, especially an un-embalmed body, Osama's remains are long-gone even if you could find it. The only place you'd even be able to get DNA from is the bones, and give it another year and I think that's even unlikely.

Fluff story. The conspiracy theories will live on. Personally, I don't care.

Video says Fish can't get at his body because he's in a sealed Navy burial bag that zipped up white canvas, rubber lined inside and weighed down with 200 lbs of weights!

You need vents or the bag will float. It might be rubber lined, but there will be a way for the water to get in.

We had to do a burial at sea with a regular coffin (the vast majority we did were cremated ashes), and the damn thing floated. We had to haul it back on board, cut holes (carefully) in the side, and then dump it back overboard so it would sink. That was more dignified than letting the Gunner's Mate's use it for target practice with the .50's.
