Things you love about Star Trek

I still love Star Trek: First Contact. I recognise now that a lot of it is Frakes ripping off Aliens. That maybe the focus on action isn't reflective of TNG. And that it's probably why the Borg are stilling being brought back to incredibly diminishing returns 30 years later. BUT I DON'T CARE, IT'S GREAT, GEORGE ISN'T DETECTING ANY LEAK.

The part where the Enterprise swoops in front of the Defiant, FUCK YEAH, STAR TREK.

First and only Star Trek movie i saw in theaters. I saw it the first week not the first day up in my college town movie theater. I feel so old now.

I somehow missed ST IV: The One With The Whales but saw every other one up to and including Insurrection in theaters. And now that I think about it I saw all the Abramsverse ones in theaters, so the only one I intentionally skipped was Nemeshit. I actually got the Star Trek: The Motion Picture McDonald's Happy Meal. Had the little communicator toy that came with it laying around for decades. For all I know, it's still in a box in the basement of the family farmhouse.

I love how Turnabout Intruder gets peoples' hackles up these days, calling it misogynistic, women can't be captains, etc. While it's pretty clear that Janice Lester was a complete nut who stole a guy's body and was a loon inside that body as well. I always thought Shatner's and Sandra Smith's portrayals were on point through the whole thing. Is it the best thing ever? No, not even remotely. It is up there with the best of s3 though, imho. And stop the horseshit about it being a bad series finale while you're at it. It wasn't meant to be a series finale, things didn't work that way back then.

I got all the cool Star Trek toy TNG phaser, communicator pin, tricorder, Klingon disruptor, Bajoran phaser from Spencer's before it turned almost completely into a teenage girl/young adult woman sex shop.

I was living in the Twin Cities at the time and the Mall of America had a Starlog Store. But the TOS prop toys were never in stock there. Eventually I learned the trick was to go to a Wal*Mart in Nowheresville, WI. Because they got their allotment of the toys but no one was looking for them there.

I definitely still have all the Playmates TNG stuff from the 90s; being able to tool around the backyard with a phaser, tricorder etc was some of the most pure fun I think I've had in my life.

Fuck I don't know what that says about how my life turned out, lmao

Was that not people misinterpreting Janice's line about "your world of Starfleet Captains doesn't allow women" to mean that Starfleet doesn't allow female Captains? When really I think the internet tells me it meant something else.

Yeah, it was something like that.

It seems like if a board has a poster named "Sarek" and a thread about Star Trek... Just sayin'.

What is Degrassi: The Next Generation?

(how is it the total nerd champion didn't get it?)
