TK Seattle Meetup...

OK. Quick-ish recap.

I live, like, three hours away. And I was getting a late start anyway when a friend I hadn't heard from in awhile called. And trying to get the timing of a 3 hour drive down is just tricky anyhow, so I wound up getting there almost an hour late.

Things started with a pitcher and a late lunch (both done by the time I arrived). There was general talk about Life, the Universe, and Everything, some talk about what people's various degrees were/will be and how they relate to the Real World. Anc and I jabbered militaryspeak at each other a fair bit, and there was some discussion of events at Wordforge.

We talked a bit about who else lived in the area but hadn't made it there, Gonad's husband showed up and chatted for a bit, we did a photo, and then they left. Then we got another pitcher (there were intervening pitchers too) and an appetizer plate and made some more small talk, including some talk about sports and cars, and everyone headed out shortly thereafter.

All told, what 3? 4 hours?

At what point did you realise the meetup would be a failure without somebody from England, and that you should have all flown over here just to meet me?

I've been meaning to come to England for a meetup. But mostly just to chase Summer around her yard while playing "Yakkity Sax" on the stereo.

It would be difficult to resist a UK meetup.

I'm glad I missed the sports and car talk, but I had a really good time and next time I will try to hang out longer. In the future we need to have it on a Friday or Saturday so we can all drink and stay out late, etc.

Dual, it was nice meeting you as well.

Dual has the only pics. And due to the nature of this place, he's probably still got to pixelate the faces. ;)

I actually wanted to do a bunch of photos, and do the first batch and blur all the faces. Then do another on with little black bars over the faces. Then do a final one with everyone holding little black bars, but I didn't have any construction paper, so the punchline would've sucked.

(I guess I could've had everyone act like they were holding them and then edited them in... )

And two days later, I'm home!

From left to right: Yours truly, the lovely Gonad, Ancalagon the Alabaman giant, and the ever-vulpine Volpone.

Jesus! You drove from...California!? Tell me you were in town on business. Because I'll feel like a jackass if I was an hour late and only had 3 hours to drive.

Anyway, you'll note that Anc had his wife take the picture so he wouldn't look like a wee little man.

Oh, I was in Tacoma for a few days prior visiting friends, so it was only like an hour drive. I got there early anyway and enjoyed a few Washington Apple cocktails. :D

Volpone should feel like an asshole anyway.

;)

Just got an e-mail from my contact. He says there's another book too: "The Other Side of the Mountain: Mujahideen Tactics in the Soviet-Afghan War" I can't find that one online anywhere. :(
