Top 100 Cyborgs / Robots Chat thread

I was on a boat being tossed (off lol)

I don't know why the Deep Thought image doesn't work. Can someone put one in? (OR GIVE ME THE ADMIN PRIVS, ILL BE GOOD HONEST LOL)

I looked at the Culture Novel Ships and even one of the Drones (Like the one in Player of Games) but there isn't really an image that does them justice. It's a "thing" apparently that there are no images. SO I decided against that and then to post something without an image anyway!

There's probably some on Deviant Art, but they might be having sex with each other...

(I edited an image of Deep Thought in.)

It's been over twenty years I think since I watched it but I guess she'd be an AI if she was a computer programme come to life? Is she actually a good character? She sounds problematic!
She's a physical manifestation of computer programmimg, it's just that the technology isn't tight like Trek.

Is she a good character? She's a character that I know and thought was an okay-if-goofy high-tech device for an 80s John Hughes movie. But she became iconic quickly, inspiring lots of teenage boys to hold up her poster with one hand.

Back in the 70s Star Lord's ship could also become a woman that was in love with him, and didn't always wear clothes.

I still have a few characters in mind but there's one in particular who I'm shocked nobody has added yet. Like literally one of the most famous characters in cinema history. But I don't want to say who because then it's like I'm telling people who to post and that never works, but I don't want to post them myself because I'm trying to trick other people into posting. If we get up to about 95 entries and this character isn't on I'll panic and add them though.

I thought about Tin Man but I wasn't sure what he was actually supposed to be and thought he might not count, but I just googled "is Tin Man a robot" and this came up...

In the books, the origins of the character are rather gruesome. Originally an ordinary man by the name of Nick Chopper (the name first appearing in The Marvelous Land of Oz), the Tin Woodman used to make his living chopping down trees in the forests of Oz, as his father had before him. The Wicked Witch of the East enchanted his axe to prevent him from marrying the girl that he loved. The enchanted axe chopped off his limbs, one by one. Each time he lost a limb, Nick Chopper replaced it with a prosthetic limb made of tin. Finally, nothing was left of him but tin. However, Ku-Klip, the tinsmith who helped him, neglected to replace his heart. Once Nick Chopper was made entirely of tin, he was no longer able to love the girl he had fallen for.

Is this the first example of a fictional cyborg?

So he probably counts.

A scifi books thread would be nice. I don't know how many people read, but it'd be a good opportunity to compare books vs movie adaptations and get recommendations for the best of the best (the Cassie Scifi reading list thread is great, but it's more of a "this is what I am reading and it's ok" thread rather than Top 100).

100 Sci/Fi-Fantasy films? Or did we do that already?

Or we could learn even more about each other by opening it up to any genre, or a non-sci-fi genre of our choosing (like comedy).
