Transformers thread

I never watched Beast Wars. Some people think highly of it, but I don't think it would have the mass appeal of a proper Transformers film. I mean Optimus Prime's a monkey in it.
 
Basically, Beast Wars starts off 300 years after G1 ends. The Maximals (descendants of the Autobots) and Predacons (descendants of the Decepticons) have had an uneasy peace for the past few generations, during which, they've had to reduce the sizes of their bodies to be more Energon-efficient. This all changes when the new Megatron finds a secret message encoded on a relic - the Golden Record, carried by one of the Voyager probes. This message was put there by G1 Megatron as part of a contingency plan, should the Decepticons lose the war. The message that G1 Megatron left was one where he revealed to any Decepticon descendants who would find it that he knew that the experimental transwarp drives being developed on Cybertron could be used as time machines under the right conditions. And the current Megatron sets out to create those conditions as part of a plan to alter history so that the Decepticons win the Great War.

Unfortunately for him.... his science officer and literal spawn of Unicron, Tarantulas is using him for his own agenda...
 
I did know that, yes. I read TF Wiki a lot. One of the few Beast Wars episodes (possibly the only one) I've watched is the one with Starscream's ghost.
 
I think I was too old by the time it came out and was in a "I shouldn't be watching Transformers anymore!" mood. Teenagers are dumb.
 
^I watched it. It was pretty okay. I mean, it's a Transformers cartoon. I'm an adult now. So it's probably not "for" me, exactly. Then again obviously a lot of the appeal is G1 nostalgia. I haven't really watched any other Transformers cartoons for a long time so I don't have much to compare it with. I was worried it would try to be "dark and gritty" but I liked the tone fine. Dialogue was a bit weak but again it's a Transformers cartoon so what do I expect? I'll watch the next two seasons whenever they come out. Ultra Magnus in a cloak was funny.
