My question is what happens to this brand when all the currently 40-something fans of the 80's version finally die, because subsequent generations of fans don't and won't really have the income to waste on re-buying shit from their youth?

I was just thinking today about how much Transformers meant to me as a child, specifically remembering how much I watched the More Than Meets The Eye VHS tape (it was the first three episodes combined.) "Voice of my childhood" is an obvious thing to say, but doesn't really cover it. My brain literally formed around watching Transformers and his voice was the most memorable and important of them all.
