UNC Wilmington Men: The Seahawks were picked to finish ninth in the Colonial Athletic Association with a roster breaking in eight new players. They had a rowdy home crowd behind them for the first visit from a ranked team since January 1992 and their first visit from an ACC team since November 2009, but fell to 1-35 against ranked teams and 2-42 against the ACC.
Linssen scores 18 to lift UNC-Wilmington over FIU 66-63
Marten Linssen posted 18 points as UNC Wilmington narrowly beat Florida International 66-63 on Saturday, the final day of the annual D.C. Classic tournament. Shykeim Phillipsgave UNC Wilmington the lead with his jumper less than two minutes into the second half and the Seahawks never relinquished it, but Isaiah Banks did pull FIU within one in the final minutes with a 3-pointer to make it 64-63, but the Panthers did not score again. Jaylon Sims had 15 points for UNC Wilmington (4-3). Imajae Dodd added 10 points. Devon Andrews had 16 points for the Panthers (3-3). Isaiah Banks added 15 points. Antonio Daye had 11 points.
UNC Wilmington breezes past Emory & Henry 122-66
Mike Okauru tallied the first triple-double of his career the junior guard, finished with 12 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists for the Seahawks (5-3). and freshman Imajae Dodd came off the bench to score 22 points, hitting all nine of his shots from the floor. Jaylen Sims added a double-double, hitting four 3-pointers on his way to 18 points with 12 rebounds. Reserve Brent Jenkins scored 16 on 7-of-7 shooting from the floor. Marten Linssen and reserve Brian Tolefree scored 12 points apiece, while Kai Toews pitched in with 10 points and five assists. The Seahawks shot 70% from the floor, 60% from 3-point range and outrebounded Emory & Henry 46-18. Micah Banks led the Wasps with 12 points.
Alston Jr. lifts Boise St. past UNC-Wilmington 80-59
Derrick Alston Jr. had 24 points and RJ Williams added 21 as Boise State romped past UNC Wilmington 80-59 on Friday night to win its third straight. Alston shot 9 for 10 from the line. He added seven rebounds and seven assists. Williams also had eight rebounds. Justinian Jessup had 19 points for Boise State (4-2).
Jaylen Sims had 16 points for the Seahawks (5-4). Marten Linssen added 14 points and seven rebounds.
Da Silva's career-high 26 leads Stanford past UNC Wilmington
Da Silva scored a career-high 26 points, and Stanford (8-1) bounced back from its only loss this season and beat UNC Wilmington. The Cardinal bounced back after losing to Butler, 68-67, in the championship game of the Hall of Fame Classic on Tuesday. It was the second game in two seasons between the two teams. The Cardinal beat the Seahawks 72-59 in Wilmington last year. Stanford led by 25 and never trailed.
The Seahawks were playing their fifth game in 10 days and it showed. They fell behind 12-0 and could never catch up to the bigger, faster Cardinal. Wilmington did show toughness inside and were only outrebounded 33-30. Marten Linssen and Jaylen Sims scored 12 points apiece for UNC Wilmington (5-5). The Seahawks haven't beaten a Pac-12 team since 2006.
UNC Wilmington: The Seahawks host Charlotte on Dec. 7. It's the first game between the two teams since the 1995-96 season.
Stanford: The Cardinal will get nearly two weeks off before playing at nearby San Jose State on Dec. 14
Supica, Edwards lead Charlotte over UNC Wilmington 76-57
Milos Supica had 15 points to lead five Charlotte players in double figures as the 49ers topped UNC Wilmington. Drew Edwardsadded 13 points, Jordan Shepherd chipped in 12, Amidou Bamba scored 11 and Jahmir had 10 for Charlotte (4-4). UNC Wilmington scored 18 first-half points, a season low for the team. The Seahawks were just 6-of-24 shooting in that half. Charlotte shot 57% (31-54) for the game. Marten Linssenhad 17 points for the Seahawks (5-6) who have lost three straight games. Ty Gadsden added 11 points.
UNC Wilmington takes on Mercer at home next Monday.
Nate Darling sank five 3-pointers and scored 21 points, Justyn Mutts added 17 points and nine rebounds and Delaware rolled to an 82-68 victory over UNC Wilmington on Saturday night. Darling had five assists for the Blue Hens (11-3). Kevin Anderson scored 11 points, while Ryan Allen and reserve Dylan Painter added 10 points apiece. Marten Linssen topped the Seahawks (5-9) with 15 points. Brian Tolefree had 12 points off the bench, while Shykeim Phillips contributed 10 points and four assists. Delaware shot 53% overall, 52% from 3-point range and made 14 of 15 free throws.
