UNCW To Host Live Oak Bank Holiday Classic​

UNCW Director of Athletics Michael Oblinger has announced the Seahawks will host the 2024 Live Oak Bank Holiday Classic, a multi-team exempt event, with Sam Houston, Colgate and Appalachian State rounding out the tournament field. The round-robin event will take place from Nov. 27-30 at Trask Coliseum. Wednesday, Nov. 27, will have the Appalachian State and Sam Houston open the tournament followed by the Seahawks and Colgate. The classic returns to action with two games on Nov. 29 and 30. The Seahawks finished last season with a 21-10 record, including wins over Kentucky and a sweep of Coastal Athletic Association champion College of Charleston. UNCW owned a record of 10-2 at home last season and had eight sellouts.

Women's Golf Ties for Fourth at Lady Paladin Invitati​

The UNCW women's golf team closed out its second tournament of the fall season with a share of fourth place at the Lady Paladin Invitational at the Furman University Golf Course on Sunday afternoon. The Seahawks played to a 291-286-298=875 score over the three-day tournament to finish even with Old Dominion. Xavier claimed the tournament title followed by runner-up Western Kentucky and the host Paladins in third place. UNCW's Victoria Levy once again led the Seahawks with a one-under tournament score and a 10th-place finish. The former Coastal Athletic Association Rookie of the Year was one of three Seahawks to place in the top 15 of the 77-player field followed by sophomore Minouche Rooijmans (T-12th place) and junior Hannah Altman (15th place).

Seahawk Madness Set For Oct. 17​

UNCW will host Seahawk Madness on Oct. 17 to highlight a busy week as the college basketball season begins to ramp up for the 2024-25 season. Buffalo Wild Wings will host the annual Tip-Off luncheon on Oct. 14 at 11:30 p.m. The event will be held at the Buffalo Wild Wings at 206 Old Eastwood Road. A buffet with wings, wraps, salad, and more will be available for $ 20 and includes drink, tax, and tip. On Oct. 17 Seahawk Madness returns to Trask Coliseum. Along with team, player, and coach introductions, nationally renowned halftime performer Steve Max will play Simon Sez with the fans, teams and coaches. The Seahawk men's team hosts Fayetteville State in an exhibition game on Oct. 30 at 7 p.m. The women will host Clinton College in their home opener on Nov. 10.

Women's Tennis Sends Five To NCCU Semis​

Led by Eda Arli , Alicia Eberwein and Katelyn Hubbard, UNCW advanced three individuals to the semifinals of the North Carolina Central Fall Invitational on Saturday. Arli, Eberwein and Hubbard were joined by the doubles teams of Elif Albayra and Stela Joksimovic and Eberwein and Hubbard in moving into the semifinal round in doubles on Sunday. The semifinals and finals of the tournament begin at 9 a.m.

Planeaux Earns CAA All-Rookie Honors​

UNCW freshman midfielder Allie Planeaux has earned Coastal Athletic Association Women's Soccer All-Rookie honors as announced by the league on Wednesday afternoon. Planeaux totaled one goal and three assists while starting 16-of-18 games for the Seahawks. The durable first-year was one of three UNCW rookies to appear in every game this season. A native of Atlanta. Ga., Planeaux scored her first career goal in the season finale vs. Elon and recorded assists in back-to-back CAA wins against Drexel and at Hampton. She picked up her first career point, an assist, on Sept. 8 to help the Seahawks rally from two-goals down to earn a tie vs. High Point. Planeaux is the first CAA All-Rookie performer for UNCW since 2021 and the sixth under Head Coach Chris Neal.

Women's Tennis Hosts Seahawk Ocean Classic​

UNCW's women's tennis program hosts the Seahawk Ocean Classic beginning Friday morning at the UNCW Tennis Complex. The Seahawks welcome Seton Hall, UNCG, Mount Olive, North Carolina Central, Longwood and Coastal Athletic Association rival Campbell for three days of singles and doubles action. First-serve on Friday is set for 9 a.m. with UNCG and Seton Hall matching up in singles play. The Seahawks open their tournament appearance at 3:30 p.m. with doubles against Longwood.

Men's Basketball Picked Third in CAA Preseason Poll​

The UNCW men's basketball team was picked to finish third in the Coastal Athletic Association Preseason Poll as announced by the league on Friday morning. The Seahawks, fresh off their third straight campaign with more than 20 wins, received one first-place vote in the predicted order of finish as voted on by the conference's 14 head coaches. Towson and Charleston were selected as one and two, respectively, in the preseason poll. UNCW graduate transfers Joshua Corbin and Bo Montgomery were named All-CAA Honorable Mentions.

Corbin comes to the Port City following two seasons at Robert Morris where he averaged 13.4 points and 3.4 rebounds while shooting 36.3 percent (87-of-240) from three-point range one year ago.

Montgomery joins the Seahawks following four seasons at Holy Cross where he averaged 9.3 points and 3.9 rebounds per game over the course of 105 games. He started 19-of-26 games his senior season for the Crusaders, including the final 11 games of the season.

Eight Seahawks Reach Double Figures in Season Opener​

Eight Seahawks reached double figures as UNCW erupted for 81 first-half points en route to a school record in points scored with a 143-91 win vs. Mount Olive in the men's basketball season opener on Monday night at Trask Coliseum. The Seahawks, who surpassed the previous record of 126 points vs. Pfeiffer on Dec. 3, 2016, began 2024-25 with a 1-0 record after a 68.8 percent (53-of-77) shooting performance from the field, including a scorching 53.6 percent (15-of-28) from three-point range. The contest was considered an exhibition for the Trojans, who shot 43.8 percent (35-of-80) but were limited to 18.5 percent (5-of-27) from beyond the arc.

UNCW and Fox Wilmington Announce Local TV Partnership​

The UNCW Athletics Department and Fox Wilmington TV have announced a partnership to air seven UNCW men's basketball home games along with The Seahawk Basketball Show featuring Takayo Siddle on local television during the 2024-25 season as part of enhanced coverage of the Seahawks. The agreement brings UNCW's televised games total to 11 games along with four previously announced national television appearances on CBS Sports Network via the Coastal Athletic Association. The longstanding coaches show returns to linear television for the first time in five years on Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m. UNCW will make its Fox Wilmington TV debut on Nov. 29 when it hosts Sam Houston during the Live Oak Bank Holiday Classic. The Seahawks return the following day to play Appalachian State, also on local Fox television.
