USA should annex Mexico

I've been doing some interesting reading on rural Mexico. Apparently portions of the native culture never surrendered to the Spanish, and are still "native" American.

Anyone interested to learn more about recent archeology in Mexico (and the Americas for the last 30 years) should read 1491: New Revelations of the Americas Before Columbus by Charles C. Mann

They keep coming here because their country sucks. If we made their country our country, then their country wouldn't suck anymore and they could go back home. Plus, we could have their oil.

Seriously ... I think we should consider annexing Mexico. Do you think they'd put up much of a fight?

Do we really want over 100 million Mexicans suddenly claiming citizenship and demanding all the rights (imagined or not) that entails? Or are we just planning on bulldozing the people into the ocean and claiming the territory? 'cause if the latter's the case, then yeah.

That is assuming those 100 million Mexicans come without a means of support. Mexico is a poorly managed country. They've got a lot of land and seaports, and they are strong in agriculture, one of the five largest oil producers and the world's largest silver producer.

Personally, I don't have a problem with Mexicans. For the most part, I find them to be a hard working, industrious, good natured people. They don't come here to blow up buildings and kill people en masse. They come for opportunities to have a better way of life. So, let's take the opportunity to them and get a fair deal on the arrangement. Sure, there are some bad Mexicans - but that is true of any group of people. It isn't like we don't know how to build prisons and put criminals in jail.

And, sure, it would be a lot of work - but when has a lot of work been bad for America? We are a country full of captains of industry, economic development wizards, and the sort of people that could make the annexation of Mexico one of the greatest financial moves ever made. Instead of illegal Mexicans being a drain on the system, the annexation could make them self-supporting while adding to our cultural base.

Supposedly a recent poll showed that 40% of the adult Mexican population would move to America if they could. I don't think it would be all that hard to annex the country.

Why stop with Mexico? I say, let's annex South America and Canada. With all the newly acquired "citizens" we could wage war on the entire world with an endless supply of canon fodder. In this way, we reduce the population by thinning the herd, while reaping a huge amount of natural resources.

Canadian citizens don't risk life and limb to come to America for better opportunities. Their leaders don't encourage them to come here to get on public assistance and send American dollars back to Canada either. In other words, it ain't broke, don't need to fix it.

^^what's that got to do with annexing Canada? They have resources we could use and potential soldiers for our global war.

Maybe that is your reasoning but it isn't mine. The Mexican's come here illegally and are a drain on our system. Annexing Mexico is a solution to their problem and our problem with them.

Then using that reasoning, we should annex Cuba, Haiti and the rest of South America, along with other poorer nations that illegals slip through. We have illegals from many countries: Cuba, Haiti, South America, Ireland, China, Russia. Some come through Canada because our borders with them are just as porous as with Mexico. It's just that Mexico (and the rest of South America) come in such massive numbers.

Interesting viewpoint, however, I don't agree. We have a large problem with Mexican people pouring into our country. There is, in fact, a movement by some Mexican people (the Council of La Raza and MEChA) that advocates taking California, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, Oregon, Texas and parts of Washington State as properties of Mexico. How do they intend to do it? To overrun these areas with illegal Mexcian immigrants and to lobby within the country to do away with our immigration laws. The Council of La Raza is already quite successful in garnering millions of American taxpayer dollars to pay for housing and education for illegal immigrants.

What about the non-Mexicans who live in the states? We were born here, have lived here all our lives, worked here, bought homes here, paid taxes here, have family buried here. This is what the Council of La Raza and MEChA say about us: "For La Raza todo. Fuera de La Raza nada." Which means: "For The Race everything. Outside The Race, nothing."

In other words - we have a big problem with Mexican immigrants - specifically illegal Mexican immigrants.

I find your imperialist argument interesting. In order to not be imperialist, we must therefore allow ourselves to be overrun with illegal Mexican immigrants to the point we lose our homes and our lives because to protect our interests naturally means we will seek to annex other parts of the world to gain cannon fodder for a global war and to take their resources. You must be a Democrat.

This wont solve the problem of illegal immigration. The companies that hire illegal Mexicans will just hire illegal aliens from other countries because they make more money exploiting people who have no recourse.
