Veep

This week's was too Curbish. Everyone's evil, everyone hates everyone, everyone humiliates someone else os ir humiliated by someone else, and the whole situation is so deplorable that I have to flipa coin to decide whether to laugh or cry.

No, but it's in Larry David's wheelhouse, Ricky Gervais' as well -- the laughter derives from the humiliation of the main character, or sometimes all of them. The hero is an antihero, or a patsy. The deck is stacked against good things happening for anyone unless they are cunning enough to steal success for themselves. It's a cold kind of comedy for my tastes.

I liked the Craig/Craig thing! Though someone should have corrected the use of "Legos" as well.

"Chung's proud of his beat-boxing, but what about the beating and boxing he did in Iraq. Proud of that, guvnah?"

A lot of wit and humor, but maybe it's just the low place I am in my life, where I can't be around that many people all being so selfish and cold-hearted. Same problem I'm having with that loudmouthed guy on Silicon Valley. I hate people who can just bellow their way into timid people's space and take over. Fucking awful people in this world FUCK THEM ALL but it was a funny episode LOL.

A lot of funny jokes, but it felt like a sloppy episode (just like Mad Men). And the revelation of Dan getting campaign manager was a non-payoff, as were everyone's predictable reactions.

The cum-throwing was a witty way to try and "drop the cow" to end an episode that lacked direction.

I thought Dan admitting he killed a dog was a bit much. I mean I could totally believe he's the kind of guy who would have killed a dog but he didn't have to say it...

That was an unexpected (but expected) turn of events!

This is where the show loses me sometimes -- if you're going to make the premise about a Vice President of the US, there has to be at least a little grounding in reality of the environment and events. When it just goes for laughs and ends up in fantasy land, I get detached from it. It's the curse of being a West Wing fan.

Lots of good zingers by everyone, though. There's always that.
