I'm currently posting this from SuSE Linux 10.1... from Windows XP Pro SP2!

SCHWEEEEET!!!

:bigass:

Yay! I'm so happy for you I can just squeak!

BTW..WTF did just say? ;)

Okay, VMWare is a program for Windows that will allow you to install and run any other OS (with the exception of Mac, as far as I can tell) from inside Windows, by creating a "virtual machine" on your hard drive.

You start the program, then create your "virtual PC", then install the operating system you want onto that "virtual PC." Right now, I have SuSE 10.1 Linux installed. No formatting needed, the OS just sits in a block of hard drive space set aside for the VMWare program, and when I decide I'm done playing around with Linux, I just delete the virtual PC, no reformatting needed.

yes, it's very nice. i like it too.

Okay, so here's a question for the linux users out there -- like, BOTH of you. In the whole fucking world. -- how the fuck do you install programs from .rpm files?

Searching around, I've seen about a million people ask this in various forums, and then all of them post, "Oh, I figured it out!" without fucking saying WHAT they fucking figured out. It's annoying as fuck.

rpm -ivh <package name>

use -Uvh, just in case the package already exists, then it will upgrade it.

Whats the point? It will return an error message anyway if it is and then you can change accordingly.

cut the middle man that's the point.
