Weekly Wipe

Eh, tonight's was alright...let's face it, the whole series has just been alright. Funny stuff but nothing amazing or all that memorable or youtube worthy like in THE PAST. And the next episode will be a FUCKING CLIP SHOW and everyone will Tweet "why is it a FUCKING CLIP SHOW" even though it's the third year running of FUCKING CLIP SHOWS and Charlie will get angry on Twitter.
 
I actually thought it was the best episode this series, but that isn't saying a lot. There've certainly been lots of funny bits, but it feels like Charlie's doing the show out of habit, rather than because he has any particular point to make. In the past his pisstaking had a Daily Show style edge to it that made you think as well as laugh.
 
I miss when he used to do informative but still hilarious things like this.

He can't really do that with this show, though, since he isn't a "politics" insider in the same way he is an "entertainment/TV" insider.

This show is more like an extension of his Guardian columns, not that there's anything wrong with that.

I liked this episode. Maybe my incessant drinking has blurred the line between my weird brain fantasies and reality, but I kind of feel like they've been carefully adapting the show to SOCIAL MEDIA RESPONSES in REAL TIME and that's why Philomena Cunk gets a measured but substantial chunk of every episode and why Morgana Robinson didn't feature at all this time. I feel like I at one point had more to say about this, but I might have just been trying to come up with interesting things to say about the most recent episode.
