Why all the focus on me copper? Why don't you answer PWC's question?
Aren't you an "authority" on the subject, lol.
Ok, let’s see
1. I never claimed to be an authority on the subject of the black race and crime/prison statistics. I am however intelligent enough to use a computer to try and find sources to obtain information. So I can find information if I need it.
2. It’s not my position to justify or defend your position when you shoot off your mouth and can’t provide documentation to support your claims.
And
3. The focus is on you because you’re the one crying everyone is wrong and then being an ass and pouting when asked to support your contention.
Now, the question was as follows.
RWC said:
Blacks, 12% of the total U.S. population make up 44% of the prison population.
Whites, 70% of the total U.S. population make up 35% of the prison population.
Why the disparity?
In an effort to further your “exploitation†of me Bitchy, I will try and give an answer to RWC’s question.
While there is a greater percentage of blacks in prison for total population numbers, studies have suggested that the numbers are off or misleading due to various reasons such as:
Improper race reporting.
Lumping similar races together for statistical purposes.
Racial bias on the part of the US Department of Justice.
However, a large percentage of blacks in prison currently are the result of the war on drugs and the introduction of crack cocaine on the scene in the late 90’s. Crack became the drug of choice among the more poverty stricken segments of society. (And I don’t think that anyone will deny that blacks are still one of the lowest income wage earners in the country) Crack was easy to manufacture anywhere, anytime and was an affordable drug to even the poorest of the poor. However, the negative effects and addictive nature put it higher on the list of controlled substances than regular powder cocaine or heroin. Hence, a good portion of the resources to fight the war on drugs was aimed at the eradication of crack cocaine and locking up manufactures, sellers, and users.
It’s a simple attempt to provide at least part of an explanation to the question. There are other reasons and or conjectures about the issue so take it for what it’s worth.
